Basically you either pour the ice water on your head or donate $100 to ALS. Most people donate either way.

You have to be nominated by someone else who was nominated. After he does it he nominates 3 people & they have 24 hours to either do it or donate $100. Obama was nominated several times but he declined & just made a donation.
