Was thinking that too, but no amex here. Right now have just AA, BA, B6, UA, US and VX. And some hotel points too, but don't think those transfer to aeroplan.

Search on matrix from NYC to a bunch of cities near YUL, and put YUL in the middle advance route code box, and you see many dates in a few weeks.

If you have the SPG anyway, might as well try it. As long as there are a few seats open you should be able to get it, people have been able to book.
