Any datapoints on what happens if I cancel a Amex Travel WALDORF ASTORIA Jerusalem hotel reservation that I used the $400 hotel and travel credit for? If it gets crawled back, I would rather ask hotel for credit (dunno if they'd give one). TIA!

I actually have a recent datapoint to share - booked a hotel 12/30 with both the travel + hotel credit. Canceled around 1/7, hotel credit got clawed back 1/10 and is obviously gone forever, but the travel credit has not been clawed back.

Tried searching, but couldn't find an answer to this. Is it normal for the past year Amex has only shown me options for the Platinum as an upgrade path from my Gold or Green, but never as a standalone? Is it simply because they figure between my Gold, Green, Biz Gold, Biz Marriott, Biz Blue Plus, and Everyday - that I have too many AMEX cards and don't want a Platinum as another one? Is there a way around this if I do not want to upgrade my Gold/Green?

I don’t understand the question, what stopping you from going to americanexpress.com and just applying for the platinum card from that page?

It automatically shows me the option to upgrade, not get the card separately. I can go through incognito - but my question is why is this happening. I imagine there's a reason AMEX is defaulting to an upgrade path versus showing me the card on it's own.

I wouldn't assume that. Just go ahead and apply for the card (unless you get the dreaded Amex Pop-up...which is a different story)

I just called to cancel my platinum card and was told that my bonus points will be taken back if I cancel within 12 months. Has anyone cancelled recently that can share their experience? Do they actually take back the points? (I opened the card 2 months ago, did the spending, and received the points).

Don't do it. Have to keep it at least a year.

Would there be a foreign transaction fee on a purchase charged to a biz green AU on a biz plat account?

Why would paying an annual fee mean it's game over?

Ask for a gift card instead of refund

Calendar year
So you can double dip, in one annual fee?
And, Amex doesn't care who you're getting it for, or whether it is new accounts or adding family members for $60, correct?
