I sent the SM the second time, I got the same response from different agent:

Thank you for taking your valuable time to write to us about this.

I have checked your account and see that you already had a Platinum Card account (ending in xxxxx) in the past which was cancelled on January 06, 2012.

I would like to inform you that welcome bonus offer is not available to the applicants who have had the Platinum Card from American Express within the last 12 months.

Therefore, I am afraid, you will not receive any bonus points on your Platinum Card ending in xxxxx.

We appreciate your understanding in this regard and sincerely apologize for any disappointment this may cause you.

Sincerely,

Has anyone done this 100K + $200 airline credits offer recently? My wife recently got sent the offer, and trying to decide whether to take advantage of it.

Has anyone here taken advantage of this offer and then, if you cancelled within 60 days, did you receive the full $450 refund? Sounds too good to be true! Is there a catch?

if u cancel within 60 days u get a full refund

Not so poshut anymore. Many reps are now claiming that this is only if you remain an Amex customer (have a different acct with amex).

Either way you can always downgrade.

No.
The full refund within 60 is for everyone.
A pro-rated refund after 60 is only if you have another AMEX.
If you don't have another AMEX after 60 you can downgrade to green for a prorated refund.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks for clarifying.

I assume, rather than cancelling within 60, they'll allow you to downgrade to a no fee card? Any suggestions which is the best Amex card to downgrade to?

The impression I got from this thread, was that it's 60 days from opening the card, not from the anniversary.
What's CMIIAW?
