IIRC Steve2 asked a Rav who said that if you show them your wallet with cards in it and ask if any of these work to get into the lounge and if they point out that the Plat card gets you in then it's OK.

I may be misremembering the exact details though.

Either way, congrats on the free miles! Please post a comment on the main site about it on the AMEX Plat post.

You must have some details messed up because there's no way that would work. Everyone would agree that to use counterfeit money is asur, but if I walk into a store and show them my wallet and ask if any of these bills work and they say that 100$ counterfeit bill would work, that would be ok?
I asked this more than once, more than twice, to try and find an opinion that would permit this (not for myself as I had already gotten my psak of asur, but for a limud zechus on everyone else), and was unable to find any who agreed once they heard all the details clearly. (some even suggested it's has more than one issur deoraisa involved) Either way, even if I would find that one Rav who would permit it, can anyone really feel secure being someich on a random rav who is not their own, going against the majority of the rest of the rabbanim? Either way, I am still going to search for the limud zechus, and I'll PM IIRC Steve2 to see who he asked and exactly what they said. I guess I'll keep everyone posted.

when u cancel and they tell u to shred it, are they telling u that because as far as they're concerned u r done with it so they are giving u advice to shred it, or is it because they don't want you having the card?

Advice.
I've never shredded a card in my life.

as long as you have another amex charge card open, you should be okay.

Otherwise it's 30 days.

Edit: That's for other people who don't have another Amex.

I tried to file a claim for purchase protection with the Amex Plat and they are asking for a police report.  Any advice?
Thanx

If you said it was stolen you'd need that. What did you claim?

Hmmm, I guess Dan is wrong sometimes too. If your car was broken into you should get a PR anyway, it's good for crime stats.

Ok thanx.  I didn't want to bother with it, but I guess no choice.

I'm definitely wrong sometimes, but this ain't one of them.
Please reread what I wrote on the site before misquoting me Devora :)

Quote from: Dan
    * Lose something? It’s covered!!!

Almost no other card offers this! If you lose an item within 3 months of purchasing it, just let AMEX know about it within a month after the loss, fax them your receipt, and they will immediately issue a refund for the item! This protection is for items up to $10,000, and for up to $50,000 in claims per calender year. No police report or any other dirty work is required!

I think it's clear that I'm saying that a lost item claim doesn't require a police report.  Obviously other claim types will vary.

Sorry, didn't mean to misquote you.  I guess I assumed that you were talking about something that was stolen when you said no police report required - why would you file a police report for something lost?

Quick question. If I bought a money order at the post office, would that work to fullfill the spending requirement for the 50000 points? the charge only shows USPS so i don't think they would know its for a money order. thanks
