Just learned that this card comes with a 5k points bonus for every $20k of spending, up to 30k points per calendar year.
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

Re: Amex Plat Questions

Did a fair amount of searching before renewing this thread. but I still have some questions. Just got hit with the Platinum AF for my second year of membership. I had kept this open because I actually needed it until recently. However I am not certain I would get approved at this time for a PRG/Gold card, but I think it's probable. I have alot of MR points currently in the account and don't want to LOSE them. I am willing to have it downgraded to another card as long as at a later date I can signup/upgrade to a card that lets me transfer to airlines and still retain my points earned from the Plat card.
So here are my questions...

1) Signup for New Amex Gold/PRG/GOLD/Zync
a) Will I easily be able to move the MR points over (like I do between my Chase UR cards)? Does it just roll into one account where the points are pooled together?
b) Will i have a hard time getting the Signup bonus (It's been 12 month since my last bonus, the Platinum card)?  If I won't be able to get it, I would rather avoid the extra pull...

2) Downgrade to Amex Gold/PRG
a) Will I need to pay the $175/$125 AF (I assume I would)?
b) Will this affect my ability to get the signup bonus on these cards (I assume it would)?

3) Downgrade to Green/Zync card
a) Will I be able to move my MR points to airlines (I believe with the Green I would, with the Zync I would not)?
c) Once MR points are downgraded, will I later be able to have those points moved to airlines once I upgrade the card/signup for a new Gold/PRG/Plat card?

4) Downgrade to Blue/Blue Sky/Blue Cash Card
a) Is this even possible (read somewhere it was questionable)?
b) If it is possible, I assume only the standard blue is an option?
c) c) Once MR points are downgraded, will I later be able to have those points moved to airlines once I upgrade the card/signup for a new Gold/PRG/Plat card?

Sorry for the length of this post, but with this many MR points I want to do it right! Thanks in advance for the valuable advice!

Hoping someone can help me here. I am about to doing a 3bm and i know that business cards that have a balance on them dont count against you but what i am unsure about is if a consumer charge card that has a balance counts against you?

Regarding question  # 1   If your platinum is not a Mercedes nor Business the 90 days rule will make you ineligible for the bonus .

Someone chime in on the rest. Limited attention span  :)

Well thanks for the advice. Winded up calling and getting a $450 credit from Retentions. Still I would love to know the answer as I'm probably going to take the credit and close the card within a couple month and get back the AF anyhow....

Hey, Chevra! Social Media Bashing really works!!!(@ least for me)

I called up AMEX after the first closing of my Platinum Statement and told them that they offered me 50,000 Membership reward points for my new card and I only got 25,000 they of course told me they can't help me so I started a campaign on twitter and after only 3Hrs I got my points!!!

Note: I have over 1,000 Followers and most of my bashing tweets got quite a few Retweets!!!!

Edit: Forgot to tell you that those babies made me take of all shameful tweets, altough some are still there

a little off the subject but are you allowed to get two bonuses with the amex plat for two separate businesses?
