A little off topic but can you get a free checked bag on Continental with an expired CO OnePass?

dan mentioned in the past that only the primary CO OP cardholder automatically gets a free bag, but AUs need to show their card. so u just show your (cancelled) card, and you're good to go!

Well, we know cancelled Amex cards, so maybe cancelled PP cards work too.
I cancelled my Amex Plat last week. Today I got a letter from PP saying, their records show that my Amex has been closed, therefore  I'm not longer a Prestige Priority Pass member... The letter states 3 different options for renewal. The standard doesn't cost anything but they require a credit card on file and there will be a $27 charge per visit. The letter states "to continue with this membership you must provide us details of your new credit card..."

For now, they don't have my credit card, so I guess in a lounge where they swipe PP it's 50/50 if it will go through, but in others where they just copy your card info (United Red Carpet JFK) I'd assume it wont be an issue. Worst case scenario can be they'll send you a letter asking for money...

Though it's been established many times in the forums that even when the lounges swipe the cancelled
card one nonetheless gains access, one thing begs explanation:

What does the swiping accomplish?

Billing Amex, recording lounge use, etc.

But how does a cancelled non-functioning card do that?

If that.  They may just want a count of AMEX entries and the swipe count it.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Did anyone ask AMEX about this? :o

LAXtraveler:   Is it just me or is it a little disingenuous of Amex Plat to advertise Avis Preferred as a benefit of being a Plat holder when anyone can register as an Avis Preferred customer for free?

On their site they say

Take advantage of complimentary enrollment in Avis PreferredŽ

Enroll online for Avis Preferred membership, which was designed for busy travelers and is complimentary for American Express Platinum CardŽ members. Simply enroll today and you can enjoy extra speed and amenities every step of the way:
You won't have to tell us your rental preferences every time you reserve -- we'll already have them on file.
When you arrive at Avis, you can skip the lines and the paperwork and go straight to your car at over 1,400 locations worldwide.
Our courtesy bus will drop you off by one of our newest cars, or you'll find it in a convenient parking space.
When you enroll in Preferred Service online, you will also enjoy automatic enrollment in My Avis -- the personal service dedicated to enhancing your online Avis experience.

but on Avis.com it is a free program with these same benefits. Ok, with amex you get some codes for free weekends etc. but it is not how they portray it, a complementary benefit of amex plat.

Are the programs with Hertz (#1 Gold) or National (Emerald Executive) any better? I have Emerald free membership.

Thank you!

unless you were referring to PP card

Amex Platinum

I spent the $1000 on the card and paid the bill.
Its the second month and I want to cancel to save the  $450. I have a gold card and a blue amex so can ask them to transfer the credit . Will that be enough not to show up on my credit report as a closed account? Will the points transfer to these cards too?

Thank you

Transfer the credit? What do you mean?

If you mean the credit line, that won't work because the platinum is a charge card, there is no "credit extended", so there is no credit to be transferred. If by "credit" you mean points, then the points will remain in your MR account even if you close the platinum. (And, because you have the Gold card, you'll be able to transfer out to, e.g., airline partners.)

Pretty sure you will not avoid getting a "closed account" on your report, though...

When you say "credit", I assume you refer to the 450 credit that you will receive upon cancellation. You can indeed have American Express post this credit to your Gold card account. I do believe that by closing this account it will still show on your report. Points will  stay, as you have the Gold card.

Another potential solution is to just downgrade your card to the Zinc and keep this line of credit open.
Thank

If I downgrade to a card with no annual fee or $25 annual fee will it show up on my credit report?

I have some other card types with $75-$90 annual fees. I do not plan on using them ,just opened them for the bonus points and spent what is needed. If I close them will I hurt my credit report? Does it pay to just pay the annual fee to avoid it showing up on my report?

Thank you
