Last time this question was asked on DDF it caused a mess..
He's not asking for a link to the link. He just wants to know if maybe this guy used the link that went public, thereby negating the DP that downgrading right away is a clawback.

No disrespect to you but some people are so greedy. You got 100k points, you got a $200 airline fee reimbursement and will get another $200 on Jan 1, plus free global entry why dont you just leave the card open until next year and then downgrade it.

/end rant
If I offer you a free $300, would you decline it ?

its not the same thing. The correct comparison is someone already gave you a free $1300 and you go and ask him for another $300. That is called being greedy.

Have you ever opened a cc that had a af, and closed it asap to get the sign up bonus with paying the AF ?

not really most ccs that have big AFs give the credits so I take the 2 credits and cancel after the year. All others are mostly free in year 1

They give you the bonus so you should keep the card, not just double dip the credits and run. Canceling after the first year is greedy too. You can draw the line where you want to, but I wouldn't get all self righteous.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

More like taking $1300, and turning it into another $300.
We can agree to disagree on whats considered greedy and what's not.

I never claimed to be righteous. Im just saying that sometimes people get extra greedy. In the first year technically you are not paying the AF out of pocket since you are getting it back. Once you get to the 2nd year and beyond you are actually paying $250 for the AF so I can see why someone would want to cancel it.

Again thats just my opinion obviously lots of people disagree with me and I'm fine with that.

Are there still Clawbacks happening nowadays or did the Clawbacks that everyone here is talking about happen not long after that link went public?

One possibility that I'm entertaining as to why they clawed back my points now is that I returned something at amazon that, along with the GE and airline credit, put the spend without credit at $2977 in the first three months - which triggered the 100k points taken back. Because the first rep I spoke to seemed to tell me that it was the return that triggered the point clawback. I've seen that it has happened to other people.

And then, once they opened an inquiry on my account and saw that I signed up through that link, they clawed it back for good and now according to the reps "there is nothing we can do for you". In fact many of them have had a hard time explaining exactly why my points were clawed back.

Does that make any sense?

its possible but my cousin did the full spend plus a little extra and the got the airline credit as well and got clawed so it's not necessarily that only people who didn't do the full spend who were clawed.
