Does anyone know if Amex still refunds the platinum annual fee if the card is cancelled within 60 days of the fee being billed? I recently cancelled a platinum card I received in April after finally receiving the 50,000 points from a referral link. The annual fee was billed on April 27th and when I went to cancel, I assumed I would receive a refund of the annual fee since I was still within that 60 day time frame. But I was told they could only prorate the fee and I would be getting $375 back, even though I have another Amex charge card (prg). When I asked why I would not be credited the full $450, I was not really given a reason, just told they could only prorate the fee. Is there anything else I can do to get the full amount back? I tried sending a SM, but was basically given the same response. And calling again to speak to different rep hasn't helped, as they just refrence the notes from the first person I spoke to.

I tried a calling customer service a few different times, but each time the rep just referenced the notes from the first call and said I would only be getting $375 back and that I was already told this. Is there another number or department I could try? I thought it was Amex policy to refund the annual fee on any card cancelled within 60 days of the fee being billed.

All I have with Amex right now is a Zync card. If you were me, would you guys cancel it before doing a 3BM with Amex due to the new T&C language they added?

My points were already issued but I have not yet paid the annual fee (it is due in a few days). Can I just cancel the card now instead of paying the fee? Or am I better off paying the fee, closing the card, and requesting a refund. Thanks.

I've cancelled many times before the fee posted, it's easier that way.

You got your 50k from the regular plat already after 3k spend? I thought they went missing according to your earlier posts.

The MB 50K went missing; the Plat 50K was posted after $3K spend. There was some confusion as to which points were issued, but I now have an SM clarifying that the Plat points were the ones that were posted, and that the MB 50K will post by 7/17. (Fee hit on 6/12, so I should be fine).

My card now shows there is a $250 payment due, meaning $450 fee - $200 in AA credits. If I cancel now, the $450 disappears and I get a check for $200, correct? Do I need to take any action to get that $200?

I recently (after the T&C changed) opened a MB Plat. card after having a few of them in the last 12 months and i currently have a gold and zinc and i got the 50k bonus points.

Update: I tweeted the AskAmex people on twitter and they issued the remaining $75 credit to my account.

Just as an update, I lost my battle to receive the full 50k for 1k spend, and ended up with 25k.
I has sent them a screenshot clearly showing it, and multiple SM's as well. I finally called them, and the guy pointed out that I had just received 50k for a Plat (my MB, part of my 2bm of Plat cards). I explained to him that it was a diff Plat card, and he told me that I can only receive the bonus once for Plat cards, even if one is regular, and one is MB.
I decided to not push the argument since I didn't want him to see that I had just canceled my Biz Plat and MB Plat, and raise any more flags. I also needed to cancel within the 60 day period, and was coming to the end. I thanked him profusely for his help, hung up, sent them an SM, and canceled the card.

Ah well, you win some and you lose some. Maybe I'll churn them both again in a month...

No, once the cs rep mentioned the other 50k, I was a bit spooked and decided to not push my luck. If I hadn't just canceled two other Plats, I would have.

Used my cancelled platinum card in the AA lounge @ MIA last Tuesday night without a problem, was picking up my wife and kid from the airport, got a gate pass, so I went early watched a little bit of the game there with free drinks.

Does anybody know, how long after I cancel a plat. will the PP work?
i.e. for how long after I cancel will they be able to swipe it and not say "canceled"?

Does the cancellation of the Plat immediately cancel the Priority Pass?
Or have I got a week or two to still benefit?
