Why did I think only after you take the flight? (or was it that chase S.A.P.P.H.I.R.E gives you the rebate on the spot vs amex Platinum Within 24 hours of booking? (that means a flight leaving in a week from today, which was booked today will be credited Within 24 of the booking?) thanks.

Not sure where you got your info from. CSR doesn't have a rebate, the points are just worth 1.5 CPP when you checkout in the shopping portal.

Don't know why I'm thinking there's rebates for both!
That means; should one look in his account he will see every $1 spend with a point summary of 1.5 so a $5000 purchase will give you a chase UR total of 7,500 or will that only be the balance should you use it to book flights?

A $5000 purchase will give you 5000 points assuming it's not on travel or dining. Those points will be worth a $50 (1˘pp) statement credit, or $75 (1.5˘pp)towards travel.

But to answer the question, yes it is a bit of a problem if you have 50,000 MR points and you want to book 2 flights that are $500 each using your rebate, you can't unless you book 1 at a time. When book with UR it is what it is.

So why in heaven world is there a $450 AF? Because they give you $300 in travel?! (just use the chase Unlimtd and get a steady rate of 1.5 for what ever your heart desires.)

You're misunderstanding, you could use the FU to get 1.5 CPP on all purchases and then transfer those points to your CSR and redeem each of those for 1.5 cents in the travel portal, effectively making the FU get 2.25 CPP if redeemed for travel.

We went through this...
This isn't really the thread for this, but...the perk is that you get an extra half cent per point. They don't advertise their card, saying how you can transfer from another cards point system. So yes you can use the FU to earn 1.5 and spend that for 1.5 with the SP, or you can do the same but spend the same 1.5 for 2.25 with the CSR. Also keep in mind, this perk is for all travel with chase, while amex 50% is only airfare, and only select airlines in Coach.

So that means anyone with the CSR has the FU?

Not at all. They can be combined though to expound on what you already have.

Why would someone open the card aside for the sign up bonus.
Assuming your taking advantage of the flights booked through chase, so now why would you book a flight for 1.5 when you can get the same spending with a value of 2.25?
Am I missing something here?
(and sorry for hijacking this thread with chase, after all chase and amex have lots of similarities.)

We are discussing the value of each point, not the points per dollar. Regardless of how many points you earn per dollar, 1, 1.5, 3, or 5, the value of the point being redeemed is always going to be redeemed at a value of 1.5˘ per point when redeeming through UR being a CSR holder.

That I understood, but what threw me off was the new understanding that you only get the value of 1.5CPP while using it for flights.(And that means it makes no difference how you did the spending whether with the freedom or CSP or the CSR?) only the FU would make a difference with normal spending?

It is a 2 step process.
First you earn points with any UR card. For everyday spend you would use the Freedom Unlimited which earns you 1.5 ppd.
Then you transfer those points to the Reserve card. When you redeem with the Reserve card you get 1.5 cents per point. This means that if you find a $150 flight you will only have to use 10000 points.  So you are only getting 2.25 cents per dollar spent if you have both the freedom unlimited and the sapphire reserve.

You always want to spend on the card that gives you the most ppd for that transaction. So freedom for 5* categories, reserve for travel and dining, freedom unlimited for anything you can't get more than 1.5 ppd on a different card.
Then you transfer all points to the reserve and redeem them for 1.5 cents per point.

At the very least, they will credit the lounge charge for your first visit - probably also for 2.  Personal experience.
