But an intriguing third option for Delta is documented in Dan's Deals Forums. No, it's not about gift cards, which would have to be bought at the airport.

Instead, it entails the following:

Purchase a non-refundable international Delta ticket departing a U.S. airport that has either 3 segments, or purchase international tickets for 3 passengers. You can use another card to purchase the tickets, need not be the AMEX Platinum as that's not what you'll be getting a fee credit for.

Go to "My Reservations" and purchase three Economy Comfort seat upgrades using your AMEX Platinum Card. Make sure that the total of your 3 Economy Comfort seat upgrades is at least $200, if you want to receive the full $200 airline credit.

Since even non-refundable tickets are refundable within 24 hours, anywhere from 1 hour to less than 24 hours after purchase, call Delta to cancel the ticket(s) and request a refund. Note that you also need a refund for the Economy Comfort seat upgrade purchases.

The underlying ticket purchase may just show as pending and not even post before disappearing, but if it does, a credit will ultimately appear on whichever credit card you used to purchase it.

The Economy Comfort charge on your AMEX Platinum will be credited.

If you successfully do this, you can thank "Platinum Guy" from the forums.

Now, I personally plan to just go with a United airline credit, which seems easier to me, and we'll use it at some point. But I'm guessing the above will appeal to anyone who has no plans to fly United or American and can't use the gift cards, or simply wants a cash credit.

Whatever you end up doing, make sure to select the airline you intend to use before end of business on January 31!

I had the Platnium that was cancelled last year in Febuary.. and since it is 11 months ago and not 12 the suits are not giving me 100,000 MR...

I also have the gold card but they are not making hell because of it...

it's hard to swollow this one...

how did you guys do it

Well for one should have obviously known it was a risk.
That being said I wouldn't give up just quite yet. Not saying that to get your hopes up but it's def still worth trying to fight for.

I currently have gold and I'm still getting it. Called up before I applied to "confirm" that I still get the 100k and then made them put it in my notes

He probably asked if he was eligible and didnt specify that he had the gold or something. So after they said yes, he probably just asked to notate it on the account. Could be he got one of those CSR agents that doesnt really know too much.

Live and learn, now they tell me yes you have 30 days to redeem but cannot be done online and they will only send me gift cards by request. Is this correct? The MR account has been cancelled. What is the best redemption at this point?

Just got an email to upgrade my gold that I got 75k on to a Plat for an extra 25k. I already had the Plat within the last 12 months. Anyone else get this and have any issues or because they offered I can def get it? And is it a credit pull when I upgrade?

Upgrade not a pull

i would not upgrade if had same plat in less than a year , better of waiting for a 50k or more plat offer after your year is up --- fyi i upgraded from biz gold to plat for the 25k based on e/m from amex( had my reason ) and had to fight for the 25k , did get it -- offer was on the first spend
