« on: August 26, 2014, 10:25:19 PM »
On August 22, 2014, Aaron Sofer an American Yeshiva Bochur learning in Israel disappeared while on a hike in the Jerusalem Forest. Since then a massive search has been underway to locate Aaron, 23 from Lakewood NJ. - http://www.gofundme.com/djet68

What is the full account of the circumstances from his hiking buddy?

Why did they separate? For how long? Etc etc

Kind of feel like there is more to the story we aren't hearing.  Just seems odd.

I read somewhere, that at a certain part of the hike, the friend wanted to do an easier way, and Aaron wanted to do a harder way. So they separated and kept on calling each other's name to stay in touch. After a few minutes his friend didn't hear Aaron respond anymore.

I was at the Yom Tefilah in BMG today. Thousands showed up. There were tears flowing from the crowd - literally. The room was shaking. Never seen anything like that.

Sounds plausible. I'm not C'V suspicious of the friend, it's just weird that two boys go hiking together and 1 disappears and the other is clueless.

Dov hikind was implying that the Israelis have put this on the back burner. Any substance to that?

The family wants the IDF to get involved. (They suspect it may be terrorist related).

It would seem from this story that either one of them or both of them were hiking alone without a cellphone.
Guys, when going on a hike, make sure that the group has 1 or 2 cellphones, and if 2 people are going to separate and go 2 ways, they should each have a phone.

If lost, you can call help right away, instead of walking deeper and deeper. If ch'v something terrible were to occur, you might have a few secs to alert 911, as in the case of the 3 boys, even if in that case it was nebach too late.

In the case of the 3 boys, the cellphone ended up killing the boys, because the terrorists panicked from the 911 call and killed them.

Hashem is the meimis and mechayeh.

If the Rosh Yeshiva feels Bachurim shouldn't have a cell phone, then they can be boteach baHashem. I don't think hiking w/o a cell phone is begeder putting yourself into a sakana.

Cmiiw but the Jerusalem forest is not that big. Can one really get totally lost in it?
