100%. Do the masses follow you out of shul every day ?
Only the NYers who pop in paparazzi style ;)
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Surprised no one posted the joke with the lawyer yet...

This one?

2 elephant lawyers are sitting in a bathtub, answering emails on their blackberries. One emails the other and asks for the soap.  Second one emails back: there is no soap, but there is a radio.

I do a decent amount of computer work, and I am constantly being asked by friends and family to do a "favor" for them and fix their computers and other devices, to which I generally comply and fix it. Which got me thinking, would I ever go to my barber (who is a friend) and ask him for a free haircut ? Or to my doctor ?  I wouldnt dream of it !!! That is his parnossa !!

So why do I do it then ? And why aren't people embarrassed to ask me ?

Does anyone else have this quandary ?
Whenever you're asked to help someone.  Start your answer by quoting your rates for that type of job.  You can follow up with, but for you, such a good friend, I'll only charge *half * 30% less* etc.
The serious ones will pay.  The nudges, who can manage with a problem computer, or are ready to  just throw away the device, will disappear.

Last favor I did, someone wanted help booking a last minute ticket.
I was busy, but I figured I'll check a few sites.
27 minutes and 15 websites later, I throw in the towel and get it over the head for not wanting to do a small favor.

Same with airfare deals.
Don't even bother forwarding them to friends or family anymore. 2 hours later they respond  "book me 12 tickets thanks".

I think by now most people have access to the Internet somewhere. Even if it's not regular access, they have SMS, and when they get a tweet about a hot deal, they can find somewhere to book it.

and that's for the individual to decide when, where and who to give that time. There's also a chiyuv of monetary masser, would these people asks their friends for that?

are you then asked to deal with returns also? Huge pet peeve of mine!
When someone asks me to order a ticket with my credit card, or a deal, etc. I do it only on condition that I won't do returns, and that they make their own travel insurance so I don't have to be bothered with claiming my cc's travel insurance

If his life is already ruined, might as well reap the benefits.
I have heard of people not wanting to benefit from the internet, to the point of not asking their friends to order stuff for them. Not sure how long they can last though!

Well if you honestly believe that  the Internet  destroys lives  then  you're a sick-pig for asking someone  to use it for you...  That's how I see it.

Oh, don't worry, I agree with you. But only if they believe that it destroys the life of anyone who uses it.

Open your eyes a bit. There are many who feel that it is better not to have internet in their home. These people may end up getting it anyhow if needed for business but will not have it until then. Some may have access at their place of work. There is nothing wrong with checking ddms so they asked someone who has access to do it for them. Stop trolling.
