Check out this article I wrote a while ago.

Four Reasons Why the iPad is Outselling the Surface

What is innovation?
Microsoft was the first one to introduce the tablet computer almost ten years before Apple introduced the iPad. Did Apple copy that idea? Yes.

I stopped reading when you forgot to mention that the Newton existed way before any Microsoft tablet was around.

LOL.

You are open to the idea of buying a watch. So, in 2014 you will buy your first one, in 2015 your second one (because it will be "the best iwatch yet"), in 2016 your third one (because again it will be "the best iwatch yet)... you see where I am going with this?

On the other hand, if you invest a few thousand into a nice Cartier it will compliment your image for a lifetime. (AND you will be able to leave it over to your grandchildren).
Let me get this straight. You're mocking those that want a "smartwatch" but you're recommending spending thousands of dollars on something that does nothing more than tell time. I'd buy a smartwatch because I like the features and the fitness capabilities. I have less than no interest in some piece of jewelry sitting on my wrist that does nothing more than a $30 watch. I've actually wanted Apple to release a smart watch ever since I heard about the Pebble. I thought it was a really good idea and I figured Apple could do it well.

I think it's a nice looking device, though some configurations looked pretty ugly to me. However, Apple has been pushing "customization" so it makes sense not everyone will like all the options.

From the keynote the watch didn't seem to be so intuitive to use, unlike other apple products. I guess we'll have to wait and see what it's really like to use one.

Overall, I feel that this is the first time that apple released a fully fleshed 1st generation product that isn't missing obvious features.

Sales wise, I think that the Sport version will do the best, as that serves the large health-oriented demographic, who'd probably be willing to buy an apple watch even if they have a dumb watch already.

P.s. Can we have a vote to see if anyone's getting one?

It's better in some ways and worse in some ways.

The real question is, are there still millions of die-hard Apple fans who will buy just about anything that Apple produces, or is there a limit? Will people (like myself) who haven't worn a watch in years start wearing one again? Most importantly, will people find such a compelling need for this that they will pay $350+ for it?

My belief is (as I stated early on in the thread) that smartwatches are not compelling enough to spend money on. For the record, I myself am a huge Apple fan.

Analysts who don't know jack sh#* about technology are already making huge sales predictions, like this pinhead:

Katy Huberty, an analyst at Morgan Stanley, said before Tuesday’s event that Apple may sell as many as 60 million of the new wearable devices in its first year on the market, adding as much as $9 billion in revenue for fiscal 2015.

60 million is crazy high number.
That man is on crack even if he somehow ends up being right.

Just a thought:
Features like the the heart rate monitor may be able to detect a heart attack or an irregular heartbeat. Alerts can be sent to family/first aid immediately.
Also,  a doctor or therapist may be able to sync up with your activity monitor so they can track your health and offer guidance and goals.

Sounds like you are unaware of the dozens of fitness bands on the market that are synced to great apps that do all that and more.
They also are lightweight and very customizable. This is not aaple innovation at all. Nothing about this watch is AFAIK.

Have you ever adjusted the time on your watch whilst wearing it on your wrist?

I haven't,  because it's quite difficult to manipulate the crown with a wrist in the way.

Did you notice there wasn't a single demo with the watch on a wrist?

A totally unrelated question; can this be worn on Shabbos as a timepiece? Assuming one turns off all notifications,  it would be similar to the calculator watches of the 1990's.

Link for one fitness band/heart monitor that has that capability?
It's easy to build a fitness monitor. Its much harder to integrate that technology into a doctors health software system.

It's very hard to build a eco-system around a product. Apple is different because they've built up
(with help of 3rd party developers) tremendous ecosystems whether for the iPhone, iPad, or iTunes.

The demo couldn't be on their wrists because the watch had to be connected to the display.

Soon enough we'll find out if it's easy to use. Until then I'll give apple benefit of the doubt based on their history of designing products that are easy to use.

Seeing the videos of it sure makes me want to buy one. Though I always first go into an apple store & check everything out before buying.
