I see you are very worried about separating pure Halachah from nonsensical personal opinions. I therefore took the liberty to clarify in the following post, which statements come from Torah and which are rambling Boich rants.

to sum up my points:
No jewish kid belongs at a stadium , Torah
If you went, for Heaven Sakes , lie low, and do your thing , dont pray in public and act like a Tzadik, Boich
 Prayer is your personal connection, its not about the 7th inning or the kiddush club, Torah
 A REAL tefilah in private beats checking into a Minyan. Boich

There is a concept called "Assey Lecho Rav" - "Create for yourself a Rabbi" putting aside people that a looking for an easy way out, if you are an honest god fearing Jew you make a calculated proper decision that this is a person that I respect and trust and I would like for him to be my rabbi and leader, once you decide that when you turn to him for advice of if he tells you something that you need to do then yes not only is it okay its required.

2. if you are referring to the Gemarah that says to put on black clothes etc. that's talking about something COMPLETELY different that has NO bearing on this discussion. How you applied that Gemarah to this case is beyond me, especially the way the Mefarshim Teitch it Al Assar.
