So I was having difficulty getting the lax-ewr leg of a lax-tlv flight this summer with aa and after seeking help here on the forums, I ended up with a major breakthrough by accident. The awards agent mentioned the possibility of putting in a request for a seat which I only realized later what she meant. Apparently, (at least for an aa flight) if there are no award seats available on the flight you want, they can submit a request for the airline to make a regular $ seat into an award seat. I don't know if this works far in advance - I was doing it a day or two before. So my brother told the agent to put in the request (he called from LA when I was sleeping here) and when he woke up he had the flight he wanted.

Just saw this thread when looking for an answer to something i saw which loooked strange.

I was looking at flights on 12/29 from LAS-ORD in first.
AA shows no First MileSAAver flights available. When i look to "purchase" a ticket that day and look at the seats available on Flight 794 @ 5:40 PM, every single seat in First is available for purchase. Does AA not offer ANY award seats on some flights? Should i try the above method?

On try 1, she said it doesnt exist.

Is this typical of AA to not make any seats available for MileSAAver in first?

I have had them try this before, don't remember ever getting approved, but there is such a procedure. Most don't know about it/ want to do it.

Interesting. How far in advance did you try?

If i book a MileSAAver in economy on a plat account and then availability opens for a MileSAAver in first, would there be a fee to change it?
