Need Help booking domestic flights!
« on: December 13, 2010, 07:32:43 AM »
An emergency came up and now I have to fly from LA to NY this week. As ANA search isn't letting me search partner flights right now, I was wondering if someone here can give me some advice. I have under 50000 Continental miles and over 100000 AA Miles. I need to fly either this thursday(16th), saturday night or sunday morning, arriving in the afternoon sunday at latest. To return Tue(21st) is the best for me. I am having a hard time fiiguring this whole system out. If anyone would be kind enough to help me out, I would really appreciate it!

First of all did u try calling american airlines themselves the advantage number is 800 843 3000 they will tell u all the available partner flights. Also if its a real emergency it might not be worth wasting miles because they might give you a really good deal (like funeral etc.)

ANA doesnt work within 7 days.
Use Air Canada or CO's site to search Star Alliance within 7 days.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I just called aa and they said they have none of the 25000 or 12500 for that matter, available for that whole time period, even with the partner airlines. How would I get a thorough check with continental? Did anyone spot a good airline deal? I tried kayak and it's not very cheap. Thanks for all the help :)

Unfortunately, I don't have time to search availability on CO, UA and AA to find flights, this is the one time I have found use for the usually maligned Delta SkyPesos.  Outbound LAX-JFK has availability in the afternoon on the 16th at the cheapest award level.  The return on the 21st is tougher, due to the proximity to the heavy Christmas travel season.  Still, there are "medium" awards available for 32,500 miles total for the combined award.

If you don't have DL miles, you could possibly find someone around here to trade with (if that is allowed on this site?).

Well...a quick check on CO (not logged in, so it is not an issue of "extra" award space for an elite traveler) shows plenty of outbound availability in coach on CO partner, USAirways at the cheapest level (12,500/one way).  The return is still a little tough, but there is right now first class availability at the saver level - even on a non-stop.  So, for 37,500, you could use your CO miles to fly US coach outbound and UA return in first-class - all at the saver level.

I unfortunately don't have enough delta miles. I don't know how trading works either.

Thanks for the help guys. I winded up getting a mileage ticket with aa the way there, and they even waived the late booking fee, and the way back, I had a delta voucher from when I was previously bumped which still had 75 dollars left over, so I got this ticket without having to mortgage the place. Thanks for all the help anyhow!
