Response to naysayers:
Some of you are unbelievable. All the post does is encourage you to be careful with your personal information, to think hard about the type of schemes you are getting yourself into and to excersize caution and discretion with credit/financial decisions. So the only people whose parnassah is getting screwed by this are those that are relying on duping others to some extent.

Without getting into specifics, this is potentially more of an issue, in my opinion.

Making assumptions across the board that nobody is getting paid and people are getting their credit ruined based on two or three reports that took months to get ahold of is on pretty weak basing from an evidence perspective. I wouldn't publish such an article unless I had an agenda to push.
There's no one defending these Farmers more than you. Are you just trying to be nice to them or are you them?

This is a fair point which can affect the credibility of the article and Dan has improved this in his more recent versions. I do think that could be clearer that it is more of a risk than a certainty.

Added a concluding paragraph.

Updated. Any final thoughts?

Two grammatical fixes:

at the Doctor’s office - at the doctor's office
his and his wife’s social security number, mother’s maiden names, - his and his wife's social security numbers, mothers' maiden names

The apostrophe is simply to avoid writing a double 's', which would be necessary if muttty91 had two or more mothers.

I changed more than the apostrophe - I made numbers and maiden names plural - there are two mothers.

Agreed. While I don't know how many followed through, every single one that asked me about it was more on the naive side than greedy/lazy. It stems from ignorance and the dozens of success stories they heard in the coffee room the day before.
Also plenty people have your social besides spouse and financial institution.
Employer, college, everyone in the medical field you ever went to, insurance agency, anyone doing a background check (before working with kids, government agencies, applying for a gun, car lease, landlord....)
Likely hundreds have access and can be just as unscrupulous (and they have).
And almost every large online retailer doing order verification that has access to Lexus nexus or ID verifier has SS!

While I would never give my SS# to a farm, and would advise everyone not to, the article seems weak, and while its not popular, I have to agree with Mr. Smith.

Updated. Any final thoughts?

The story I was quoting, he doesn't know the teacher personally. Just having the account holder's
CC# that were used for the booking, calling Citibank, the account activity showed that the tax
amount of over $1,000 was refunded back to the credit card. The teacher gave this refund back to the farm.
The farm refused to even refund this amount. This AA account was part of the massacre in 2014.

His e-mail reply below:

"The account was flagged for selling points. I would love to reimburse for that, but I don't and so don't others."

"The tax charge was a cost incurred by the TA in booking the ticket.

As a courtesy, instead of him using gift cards or vcc, I facilitated a credit card to be used for that charge.

With most of the other accounts it never came into play because the TA used his own card. Even in cases where I facilitated the AH cc, it was understood that it was never an item sold, thus not in contention for refunding."

Why?
I think that there is so much info in the post that bolding that will bring out (put the reader's attention on) the basic point. "You have no idea that they are abusing your info"

I guess unlike DDF, the language of DDMS is actually English  ;)
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
