$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

I think the answer is right away, but how quickly do the miles appear back in the account following a redeposit?

Instant.

Funny how we were just talking about this: http://viewfromthewing.boardingarea.com/2016/01/31/official-changes-can-make-american-aadvantage-award-march-22-lock-current-pricing-future-trips/

Short answer: it depends.
thanx    but is that relevant?     That article seems to be a new decision by AA on how to deal with changes during the devaluation   My case has always been potential possibilty, so i doubt any decision made during the devaluation will affect it

Figured :)
Now that we settled that, I'm sure you know the answer to this:  :P

Actually, just realized that QR changed the flight schedule like 10 times since I booked (changes were by a couple of minutes). Does that mean I can make changes and even change O/D with no charges? If yes, would those changes have to had been made relatively soon after QR made changes, or I have carte blanche?

its not useless for long domestic flights

1) a couple minute schedule change won't do much.
2) carte blanche

Depends on how good you are on the phone. But officially has to be 60+ mins.

Good thing I have a couple of weeks until availability opens up to explain why a couple of minutes will make a difference. Just off the top of my head, if I'm looking to change the return, I can say the new schedule messed with the seaplane schedule and would cause me to have to leave my hotel several hours earlier.  :o

I just cancelled a flight that had a change of 20 mins. So it's possible.

View from the Wing's (reliable) claim that you must be reserved on that specific OW carrier to allow a change post 3/22 without a re-award trigger,
does that coincide with Dan's suggestion of canceling without redeposit?

BTW IDK if it helps you but it's not exactly like that. He says you can't change from an award that's completely AA, OW or non OW partner, to something that's not that. You can definitely switch between QF, QR, and CX for example without a problem. Also, assumedly, once your award is a mixture, it can be changed to anything

It helps a lot. Thanx. I read it again and that seems more like it.
Currently I'm booked on MH and AA, your saying that I should have no issues changing that to a mix of MH, AA &/or CX &/or JL. Correct?

How difficult is it to add a leg?  Currently I have JFK-DOH in QR J, if I want to add BWI-JFK is it possible to do last minute on the same PNR?  Or do they need to redeposit and fully rebook?  I'm fine with paying the post-deval cost.
