$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

I have an itinerary on US metal on hold with AA. I'd rather book part of it with Avios, will it go back to inventory as soon as I cancel the hold?

If I book an AA award LAX-JFK as a connecting flight in business (LAX-BNA-JFK) and later a First Class seat opens up direct (LAX-JFK) can I change it with no fee just the additional miles?

What if I booked JFK-LAX-BNA-JFK and I already took the first leg when the return F (or J) opens on a direct flight? Does that change anything? Can I switch to direct with no fee?

IME you can but you might need to pay the $75 expedite fee (if you haven't already paid it) YMMV whether or not they'll charge it.

I don't think anything changes if you already flew part of the reservation

How about the opposite; Booked in J and want to downgrade to Y (Origin/Destination same), will AA refund the extra miles at no charge?

No, and you cant downgrade if its needed to refund miles without the $150 fee

AA metal?
Yup.

Thankfully, I was able to grab something else.

Looks like I'll be flying in F instead of J.
