$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

That's probably a manual waiver that their doing. Since regular award bookings / changes are subject to it.

Good to know :)

Are the award flights from jfk to lax really bad or am I doing something wrong?
I have been checking every day  for F, J or Y for the last 2 weeks  (For a flight this month)and nothing non-stop is opening up other then some weird hour flight within 2 days of departure. Even the reg miles are like crazy amounts. AA became HORRIBLE

Anyone have luck recently getting AA to open an award seat for a positioning flight? I am booked SFO-LAX-HKG and I want to take a later flight from SFO-LAX.

Will actually booking (not selling) an award ticket for a friend get me shut down by AA?

No. Perfectly legit (unless he is paying you...)

Not necessarily. If they feel that it was sold, they can still shut you down.

Obviously if you're doing the actual booking for him, there will be less red flags in their system.

Yes I'm actually doing the booking for him as a wedding present so nothing shady happening or intended. Thanks!!

Doesn't make a difference what the reason is, if they feel you sold, they will shut you down.

The chances are significantly less if you do the booking yourself,  pay with your CC, never sold before etc.

I'm looking into flights next week from PHL-MYR (Myrtle Beach) or PHL-ILM(Wilmington, NC). There is currently only AAnytime available (30k and 50k) for the times I want. Is it reasonable to expect SAAver to open up a few days before the flight?

These days? No.

It's awful. I've accumulated all these AA miles, but can barely use them…

read the ddms post. He wants everyone reaching out to the DOT and to AA to let them know that this is unacceptable
