$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

Right, because the award goes from one that has a non OW partner to one that has exclusively OW partners, so it reprices.
Oh well, if only I had known that several months ago. But I'm not crying over 5K AA.

Yup. Sorry. Would never voluntarily choose J over F on this route.
+1,  but it may be a girth sensitive preference.  I think this was discussed at length upthread

Yup, though availability can open up more closer to the flight.

Or it can dry up.

AA award cancel policy?

if i have a ticket jfk-lax (one way) and want to change (same route different day) to a few days after the scheduled flight? can i do it and just pay the diff in mileage?  since there devaluation it will almost surely be higher.

its a direct business class ticket. if i want to downgrade will they re-deposit the difference?

any fees involved?

how much if i just wanted to cancel and redeposit?

thanks!!!

It will not be higher as long as the origin and destination stay the same you can change the date an unlimited amount of times (the class of service must stay the same)

yes you will have to pay a 150 dollar re-deposit fee and that would apply to cancelling as well. Basically any time you need to redeposit miles with AA you will have to pay $150 unless you have status with them

thanks for answering.

you said i cant switch class-i believe you can go higher not lower. which means i can do first if i wanted.

in regards to switching dates, so your saying that if i go a few days later it will NOT be higher mileage? im not sure thats correct because i thought if wanted to change my business class ticket to a different day-same route and if the the business award availability is showing lets 50k and i paid 25k in December then they will charge me the difference? your saying im incorrect in my assessment??

you can go higher or lower but that will trigger a new award and they wont honor the rates that you booked pre-deval

Regarding switching dates you have to switch dates with the exact same award so if you booked bus saver pre-deval and you are switching to the same level bus saver post deval even though it now costs more you will not have to pay any additional miles.

I hope I was clearer this time

you were.
and thats sounds great!
but AA a few months back with out telling me and apparently with out any reason whats so ever switched my flight time. think it was earlier and im already on a really early flight. thought perhaps my flight was canceled or something. it was not. no real change. so obviously now this was after the deval and for my orig flight here wasnt any direct bus savers left. so after a supervisor got involved they okayed the switch with out charging more.

just to be clear the only way this can be done if i find for a few days later a SAVER AWARD DIRECT BUSINESS TICKET-and if i do and its more miles only then they can do the switch with me not having to pay more?

thanks!

Yes with AA awards you can change an unlimited amount of times as long as travel is 1 year from the date that you originally booked and as long as the origin and destination stay the same (meaning if you are booked on a non-stop you can switch even to a flight that has a stop as long as the origin and destination stay the same) and of course the class has to remain the same as well.

and if the flight you want to switch to only has standard awards available in your class? will they still switch you or would you have to pick a flight that has a saver award available in your class? bec besides for the deval the award availability is almost non existant

Standard awards are considered a separate class then saver, so if you want to switch it'll cost you..

Shouldn't be a problem.

I've called in a couple times for post-deval date changes, booking out of DW's account (with me on booking) and they didn't mention anything.

Thanks. Here's hoping I can get them to cancel with no redeposit fees, being that one flight was delayed for 40 min.
