$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

I booked 3 tickets with Avios a while back (me +2). I added my AAdvantage number to the reservation so we can all get free baggage (I have the CC).
Now, I want to add a 4th ticket to my reservation. I am within 21 days so I don't want to book with my AA account and get charged the $75 fee; but if I book with BA, I can't merge the two reservation to get the 4th ticket holder free baggage as well - or can I?

No such thing as merging airline reservations.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Is there any way to get free baggage on the new reservation?

If there are now 4 Saaver seats available, you may want to rebook and cancel.

Booking with your AA account for someone else will get them free luggage??

If they are part of my reservation - they would...
I have added people to my reservation in the past by booking over the phone.

Thought about this - but there were/aren't 4 seats avail. I don't want to take the risk of canceling and then being unable to re-book as Saavers

Risk/reward all this for $25

Exactly what I was wondering.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

it depends where you're going and for how long. Sometimes you can have 1 suitcase just for food.

Booked award flights from JFK to LAX, all the seats are open, but they would only allow me to book the middle seats. I am traveling with a 2 yr old and 4 yr old so that obviously wont work.  When I called they told me they cant change it, and that the system will figure this out 72 hours before the flight and will get us 3 seats together.

This makes me super nervous, any ideas?

I would book the kids far away from you and from each other. Let AA deal with it. I guarantee you they won't let it happen.

Thats true, but you need 2 different people to switch, and in this case they would need two people in the same row to give up both the aisle and window seat for a middle seat.

Americans advice was to not select seats at all and that the computer would assign us seats 72 hours before the flight, but what if the flight is completely booked and there are no open rows?

They block a few rows ahead of time for families. Agent was correct, don't select any seats now.
If no seats selected now, you can also get auto-upgraded to extra legroom or other closer to front seats depending on whats available at time of check-in.
