$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

I am having a huge problem with an AA award flight, all suggestions are welcome.

I have a flight from EWR to TLV round-trip, booked on LY using AA miles.

I want to change the return to a few days later to a reservation that I have on hold with usairways (one of the glitch award tickets)

First I called AA and they said they cant touch the return at all since they no longer have a mileage agreement with LY and any change to the ticket will mess with the outbound segment as well.

Then I called EL Al who said they cant either touch the ticket because it was issued by american.

I then called AA again, and asked them to just switch the return flight to the usairways flight that I have on hold. This time they said they can switch it, but it will cost $150 for the change although I'm not switching the destination or departing since I am switching the airline. I am fine with paying that, but then she said that she cant use the reservation that I have on hold because "that's not how it works" and anyways she said she wouldn't be able to switch the class of service, even if it would be currently available.

Is there any way to get this done?

TIA

Did you ask them about just cancelling the return leg on LY?

I think I could do that, though I would get hit twice with fees

1. Mile redeposit fee $150 for the return

2. Close in booking fee $75 for the new flight

Rep is correct.

Cannot merge the PNRs, and switching from a partner award to a oneworld award incurs a fee.

I don't even know if it can be done (just cancelling return) but if so, you should be able to talk your way out of the $75 close-in fee.

So the best option is to wait until I arrive in Israel, then attempt to cancel the return? Is there any truth to what my original rep said that the outbound would be affected as well?

Also do they have flexibility regarding waiving the close in fee?

Id try calling now and seeing if they can just cancel return leg.

Better idea- try getting cancellation fee waived (was able via supervisor) and pay close-in fee.

I've gotten close-in fee waived for less.
When you say "less" You mean less time to the flight?

I edited my post- just try to get both close-in and cancel fee waived. You aren't really cancelling and arent really booking close-in. It's doable via the right supervisor. Depends on your gift of gab, level of patience and time to spend on phone.

Bottom line- find out first if it's even possible to cancel return and leave departure flight in tact.

Well, using that as the barometer, none of my travel has been free,  because I've had to pay Uncle Sam his 2.50/5.60 per leg.

As all ads go, taxes include the 5.60 Sep 11 security fee, but never writes out the YQ or any other taxes

I like how on all advertisements the airline writes out that the fare includes the $5.60 Sep 11 Security Fee but don't write out the YQ or other taxes

You sure they don't include "taxes and fees" etc in the footnotes?

Taxes & fees, but the $5.60 is written out, like that bothers me the most

Yeah, if that's the case (you have a link?), then it's definitely misleading.

That part doesn't seem right to me. Cancelling the return should have no effect on the outbound, unless I'm missing something.

Ok, I'll try to get as high up as I can. But you are 100% convinced that I have no shot with getting those fees waived?
