$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

Coach  also opens 2 close-in?

If I book before 21 days, can I change dates and times without a fee on award tickets JFK-LAX?.

If you change within 21 days of the new flight you will have to pay the $75 fee, unless you already paid it.

In other words, once you pay it, you can still change without additional fees.

1) If you cancel an award ticket, does it go back into inventory?
2) How soon?
3) Does that change if it was booked with BA?

My understanding is that there is a big YMMV  with this.  No guarantees

Have a quandary on behalf of a family member. Was scheduled to fly JFK-LAX on a 12.5K award ticket on Tuesday. Thought they had to be back Monday so changed to a 30K ticket, they charged her the extra miles but no fees.
Now she wants to revert to the original Tuesday ticket, but they're telling her that either it'll be $150, or the full 30K. there are 12.5K tickets available.
Any recommendations?

Since they already deducted the extra miles for the 30k ticket, they either have to pay the $150 redeposited fee or eat the difference.

Was afraid of that. Is there an option to hold that leg for some future time and book a new ticket?

As a data point,  they waived the $150, only had to pay the $5.60,without me even asking.
