$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

How far in advance does aa release award seats? If you log in at the earliest time does that mean you will have easier time finding award tickets or is it not neccisarly based on a set amount of seats that are on a first come basis ( hope my question isn't too confusing)

Depends on route....some open far in advance and dont open again such as FCO-JFK J, and some open close to the flight
If you think nobody cares about you... just forget to pay your credit card bill

AA Award Flights
« Reply #702 on: July 21, 2015, 06:41:34 PM »
I've been trying to book 3 award tickets hkg-dxb-amm-Tlv for 30k pp. On the amm-Tlv flight there are only 2 seats available. The third seat is for my baby. I've been on the phone at least 5 hrs with aa trying to book my baby hkg-dxb-amm as a regular award seat, and amm-Tlv as a lap infant attached to my ticket. I've been sent to every department in aa and have gotten different answers. Some have said that it was possible and would cost in the $30 range but they can't ticket it. They sent me to RJ and RJ told me they can't add the infant or even touch the ticket cause it's controlled by AA. I'm being sent around in circles. Has anyone had experience/ success in adding an infant ticket to only one of the legs of a trip? If I would add the baby as a lap infant the whole way it would cost me over $400. Not interested in shelling it out.
Any tips would be very helpful!

If there is a later flight with one seat available, book yourself in that one and your wife and Infant on the earlier one, then hope another seat opens on the earlier flight and change it.
I once booked with a long stopover in AMM and I changed it when the earlier flight opened.

And if it doesn't open, they won't let you go standby, so be prepared to take a cab from AMM to Israel.

First off, there is no later flight. Second, on almost all the flight that RJ ha open award space, there are only 2 seats available max. Do you have experience with then opening a 3rd? Third, what d93 said.
Still looking for an answer to my original question.

So I had an award booked in J from California to New York for a motzei shabbos. The original flight time when I booked was 10:45pm, now it changed to 9:15pm. Did anyone ever have success getting AA to put you on another airlines flight? In this case United had a flight at 10:30.

Trip is for late September beginning of October. Better to call now or closer in?
