$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

Looks like AA has lots of award availability to Europe right now. Pity that doesn't help us much to Israel.

Tried looking but couldn't seem to find it.

Is there a way (and if so how) to search the AA site for Award Travel and specify the search to AA Metal?

Advanced Search.

Under "what are your carrier preferences" click 'American Airlines and American Eagle'

Try incognito or something. I tried JFK-LHR and it only gave me AA

It could be that if nothing is available on AA it'll give you alternate options.

Just tried in a few browsers and incognito and got the same result. I guess it might just do what you suggested which to me is a bit useless but thanks anyways!

That doesn't answer my question.

I thought it indicates that it isnt considered the same and that unless a nice rep waives it, the norm is to be charged.
