$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

On dansdeals website it says travel between NYC-BOS is 4.5/7.5k. Looking to fly Tuesday. How would I know which one it is?

It says it in the first line of the DDMS article:

4.5K/7.5K means if you book before 02/02 (for travel anytime in 2016) the rate is 4.5K, but on 02/02 the rate will change to 7.5K.

And here the deval.

He is talking about wide open award availability on Tuesday to Boston. Isn't that what you are asking about?

If I Book a OW award and pay the $75 close in fee, can I later add the return onto the same booking to avoid the paying twice? and vice versa?

AA doesn't charge a change fee on award flights. Only $150 to cancel/redeposit.

This could potentially work for you.

$150?

Correct, because it would require and redeposit and new booking.

On AA award it says that taxes are $80.60 per award on a flight from NYC - BOS. Is this true? Not 5.60?

That includes a $75 close-in fee when booking within 21 days with AA.
