$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

Sorry if this has been asked already, I read a few pages didn't find it:

If I book an economy anytime award jfk-lax for 30k one way, then business saver space opens up, will they switch me and refund 5k? What would they charge?

$150 if you want those miles back.

But IME its more likely that F opens up on that route than J.

They would allow me to forfeit the 5k and not pay $150?

What would LHR-AUH-JNB in F on Etihad cost in AA mileage?

AA doesn't let you transit the Middle East between Europe and Africa so it would price separately as 40K + 60K = 100K. But I think Etihad may only fly to JNB on Jet Airways A330s without first class?  So 40K in F LHR-AUH + 45K in J AUH-JNB = 85K

So I've been trying to book CPT-LAX like this: CPT-DOH-AUH-LAX, with the first 2 segments on QR and the last segment on EY.

First I first booked CPT-DOH-AUH and then called to add AUH-LAX. It priced as 2 awards

Then I cancelled that and booked AUH-LAX and then called to add on CPT-DOH-AUH and again it priced as two awards.

Does this make sense? I thought transiting through DOH was supposed to allow you to travel CPT-LAX on one award? Any suggestions?

CPT > AUH is 1 Award
AUH > LAX is another award

That is how AA prices this.

Yet CPT-DOH-LAX is one award. That's why I wanted to if I can somehow string them together.

More likely a MPM issue -
CPT-LAX = 9993
CPT-DOH-AUH-LAX = 13205

MPM isn't the issue. Can't combine non-OW airlines with OW airlines on these awards. So, have to do QR instead of EY unless you're willing to pay for two separate awards.

Exceeds the MPM as well.

But is still permitted, at least hypothetically if QR had space, on one award.

That's kinda my point. Not sure how it's an MPM issue if you already surpassed the max.

What makes you say it's permitted on one award?

See here and here.

If I understand it correctly, seems like the reason you can't do AUH is because in order for this exception to work QR needs to get you from origin region to your destination region.

Hey, you beat me to it. You can also see here and here.

I just thought that if you transited DOH it'd count. I wanted to try to find QR space to the US to try it out, but no luck so far.
