$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

Does the flight show as being ticketed online?

A hold doesnt get deducted. If it is ticketed, the miles should be deducted.

In my searches i have not seen many J Saver seats on that flight. If I had a choice, I would take it over F and save the miles.

I am using 25k each person OW

what do you mean save the miles?

Not much of an upgrade over J on the A321 Transcon.

Go to your reservation on AA.com, does the status show "on hold", "on request" or "ticketed"?

Those 2 means no miles deducted. Ticketed will have them be deducted.

No, which is why J would be perfectly fine on the flight.

If it was me, I'd chose F when flying alone and J when with someone else.

+1. The 321 F has some nice perks,  especially on the ground.  But you can't sit next to someone,  and the J seats are a drop wider

FTFY.
to clarify, I didn't mean the seat cushion, but the whole matzav. especially when lying down. I thought it was just me, but heard this unsolicited from 2 others. It may just be a function of the reverse herringbone, or just in our heads.
Otherwise the flagship check in is the biggest maalah

Are you saying J feels more spacious?

F has the reverse herringbone layout as well.

I am saying that. The J herringbone seems wider in the leg area than the J. Again, might be in my head
