$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

Probably get a better answer if you call them your self then asking here.
Obviously, I just didn't know if anyone here ever had success doing something like that before.

It's been done "to complete an award"  or "to complete a party." not easy tho.

And officially only Y not J/F (at least that's what an AA rep told me once).

Its amazing how little the AA reps can see. Its crazy! After waiting 20min+ for a rep in AU and then getting disconnected I just stuck with the US num and HUCAed and HUCAed and HUCAed.
The 5th rep I got was semi competent. Instead of telling me basic rules or asking me the same q's over and over boasting ignorance, this rep tried working with me and searched as many routings as she was able to come up with. I ended up with some ridicules route but I'm fine with that knowing that I'll change it as time comes closer. I just wanted to book O&D and get the 10% refund per account. Either way, it worries me for when I'm gonna have to switch the routing, what can they see already??
They couldn't see the MH availability I was seeing on BA :( OK.
They couldn't see the KA availability I was seeing on BA ??? interesting.
They couldn't see the CX availability I was seeing on BA & QF :-\ annoying.
They couldn't see the JAL availability I was seeing on BA >:( Come on!
THEY COULDN'T SEE THE AA AVAILABILITY I WAS SEEING ON BA & AA :o :o :o :o SERIOUSLY???!!
After the whole back and forth, what I saw on AA I put on hold. The rep was then able to piece it together with the little she was able to see. Unbelievable.

I definitely earned these miles after spending 2+hrs dealing with them yesterday.
...and I though travel was free :P

Does the redeye LAX-JFK ever have saver availability? I've been searching for months and seems like I never see availability later than 12:30 PM.

If it opens, it does so close-in.

Thanks, would like to book more in advance, but I guess not going to happen.
Seems Friday and Saturday nights have plenty of availability.

Does CX F availability to HKG actually exist? Im looking for 2 seats in F, is it a waste of time?
I looked this morning, here is what I found-
JFK: 1 avail 12/25, 2 12/29
LAX: 1 avail 12/24, a 12/25
ORD: 1 avail 12/29, 2 12/30, 1 12/31
BOS: 1 avail 12/30
There were none available from those 4 cities for all of Jan when I checked. I realize your question is 8 days old, but thought it'd be good to show you actual availability.

CX F generally only opens up very close in.
