$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

So I can change PHL-DOH-MLE in J to JFK-AUH-MLE in F for free because of class upgrade or no?

Nope.

2 reasons, you're changing award types and O/D.

+1
Just to add, if you are changing regions, it's an award type change and will always incur a fee.  So if you change from AMM-AUH-SYD J to IST-AUH-SYD F you will incur fee (besides for mileage difference).

Yes, my last example shows that.

2015: 116K bkd | 1.6M brnd | F: OZ,NH,AA,EK | J: UA,CA,TK,DL,TN,AF,VA | LIH,NRT,ROR,PEK,CNS,BOB,MEL,TLV & Pacific Hopper

I didn't see anything about J to F in last example.  But we agree.

J to F isn't the clincher there, it's the subbing of AMM with IST, which changes award types, as I did when I deleted LHR from DXB-SYD.

Let's clear it up.

Changing from AMM-AUH-SYD in J to F = no change fee (upgrading class of service).
Changing AMM-AUH-SYD to AUH-SYD = no change fee (dropping segment in same region, same award type, same mileage).

Combining the above, changing AMM-AUH-SYD in J to AUH-SYD in F = no change fee. (One could theoretically also change AMM-AUH-SYD-CNS in J to AUH-SYD-CNS in F and then change that to AUH-MEL-CNS and then change that to AUH-MEL, all without fee.)

Changing AUH-SYD to DXB-SYD = change fee (changing origin and changing award type).
Changing LHR-DXB-SYD to DXB-SYD = change fee (changing award type and mileage requirements).
Question: How is award type determined when flying multiple carriers? It's my understanding that so long as at least one leg (even not main/overwater leg) is on AA metal, it's an AA award.  Correct?

Agree.  Point is that J to F is insufficient to override award type.  Even though it does override origin/destination.  Your example didn't include that - so I included it for those that may still wonder.

Make it a long connection in SIN and you should be able to.

Is it possible for a rep to combine 2 separate award pnr's on hold, and book it into 1 pnr? Tlv-Amm, Amm-Bkk?

Making an award flight Eze-Mia-Ewr. Eze-Mia segment is business first but Mia-Ewr is in economy. (Better than going to lga in first) All on the same booking.
If business opens on second segment do I get automatically upgraded? How about free economy plus?

thanks,
Is that for the upgrade or economy plus? And I assume there would be no charge.
Eta: I see you didn't quote me fully...
How about if business doesn't open, would economy plus be free?

Called to ticket an EY reservation tonight that was said to be on hold through 11:59pm (have email confirmation stating the same) and learned it had been cancelled at midnight (or sometime shortly thereafter) London time. I quickly grabbed award seats for the flights with what went back into inventory, but was unable to confirm F for one passenger on one segment. AAgent got a supervisor to send a request to the "etihad liaison" and the request is documented on the PNR. What are the chances this will actually work to get the held ticket reinstated and ticketed? Any first hand experience?

There was a slight change in my flights schedule - 15 min on each leg, do I have a chance of them changing it for free?
