$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

Just a data point I can't seem to find if it was mentioned here before. I would like to divulge this because I figured this out myself (I'm sure others have too), when looking for AAdvantage availability, for some reason the desktop version on Desktop, displays more availability (I believe it's specifically stopovers) than even desktop version on a mobile device.
Not sure why it does that but it helped me book a Qantas flight that wasn't showing up on my phone.

What’s the sweet spot for an opening NYC-LAX (either direction)? I stopped collecting AA miles due to terrible availability, though I have 15k left that I’m trying to burn.
