$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

looking to go anywhere
What route errored out? I found it shows routings that can be OTP and then they error out. So youd need to search segment by segment.

it never showed error messages. it just never registers that im trying to search something. i plug in some random route, a pop up comes up inviting me to use the award map, i press x, try again. same thing. weird

ETA: are you sure this award map still works? i checked a video on youtube from aa showing how the map works with a link to the page and the link doesnt work anymore...says " looks like this page has taken flight...."?

Posting this here too: Have an economy class ticket on Qantas booked with AA miles SFO to MEL for this Sunday. Award for Qantas Business class opened up and I opted to pay 55k AS miles (and pay $150 to redeposit the 40k AA miles) over 80k AA miles.

Q1. Was that a good choice?

Q2. More important: How can I avoid the $150 mile to redeposit the AA miles? (No AA Status)

Q1. If AA was willing to waive the fee due to upgrade then it would have been better with AA. Otherwise, it depends on how much YOU value the points and how you plan to use them. But it isnt a BAD deal.
Q2. If there was a change in flight time or what I wrote above.

They are correct, you can route via either Europe or DOH (provided both flights are on QR) but you can't transit both regions enroute to Africa.

I thought they eased up the rule that you could transit both. Not much of a difference because JFK-CDG is not available in J so its 22.5k for that portion and 55k for the CDG-DOH-JNB portion. 77.5k instead of 75k with one huge caveat...changes cannot be made if JFK-DOH-JNB opens up without incurring separate $150 redeposit fees.  >:(

Because according to them Origin for Award 1 is JFK, Destination is CDG and then Origin for Award 2 is CDG and Destination is JNB. So 2 redeposit or change of Origin/Destination fees.
