$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

We’re giving you more flexibility with waived award reinstatement and change fees for awards ticketed by September 8, 2020

Am I reading this correctly? AA extended the free award cancelation for flights booked till Sep 8?
Tnx mate just booked lie flat transcon for 20k

Used AA miles to book MLE-DOH-JFK on QR in Dec.
Now it seems that QR canceled the DOH-JFK leg on my date of travel. doesnt look like they rebooked me into another flight just yet.
Am i able to have them book me into another date regardless of award availability? or will they just cancel my ticket and redeposit miles?

TIA

If it is really your account and you are really booking for a friend, you should be ok.
Make sure you use your CC to pay the taxes.
Don't call in advance.

The problem isn’t booking for your friend. The flagging happens if they thing the redemption done is not typical for something that people might just “give away for free” (friend is not allowed to provide you any compensation whatsoever for the miles).

Questions to consider in terms of what they might flag (combination of the below):
Is the ticket you’re looking at domestic or international? Economy or business? Low miles or high? Booking travel far out or for within the next few days?

Also the history of who your friend has booked for.
he doesn't have his own American account, but your saying if he would have used his account to book for other 3rd party members and then aadvantage went ahead and  shut down his account  and afterwards he used my account to book a flight for himself it would be a higher likelihood of getting flagged?

AFAIK it is the opposite, if your friend has been booked by other accounts often. Meaning you are not his only friend booking for him....

Booked a web special and need to cancel the outbound to TLV. AA is telling me that I need to cancel the whole ticket and rebook, and of course the web special isn't available anymore, so need to pay full award fare.

 Is that correct or huca?

It is correct. Had the same thing. Web special cannot be modified in any way.

Ok thanks, i am hoping they will change the outbound flight more, so far they changed the outbound by 1/2 hour. If they change it more significantly, any ideas if that would allow to cancel outbound and keep inbound?

I booked a web special with a hour stop over. They just changed the flight now I have 2.5/3 hour stop over. Was hoping I can convince them to switch my flight to a direct flight.I finally got thru to them and they said since it’s a award ticket we need to transfer you. Was on hold for 90 min until my phone died. What are the rules of the game and am I wasting my time trying to get thru with them again?

Why did you book RT?!?

I have seen where a RT generates a Web Special (or just a lower mileage requirement) that two one ways on the same flights.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I booked SFO-JFK flagship f using EY miles. AA changed the flight and downgraded me and put me on stop over. AA telling me they can't touch the ticket and EY is telling me there is no availability on the direct. Anyway to get back on the direct? Thx
