$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

AA Award Flights
« on: September 12, 2014, 12:11:49 AM »
Had two quick questions on booking an AA award flight (AA metal to Eur and LY metal to TLV):

1. Does AA award ticket allow for a free domestic trailing flight in the year following return to destination?
2. If I am a holder of an AA Exec Plat, will an offpeak coach award cost 7,500 fewer miles?

1. No. No stopovers!
2. Is this what you are talking about?

Got a reservation on hold that ends today the hold, wanna hold it for another 5 days, can I just ask them to reserve it and hold it again without canceling or I need to cancel it first?

I'm just scared that from when I cancel it till I rebook it will be gone

Does AA only open up 1 saver award seat in J and F?
I'm looking for 2 tickets JFK - LAX direct in J or F and can only find one seat.
How do people go about booking 2 award seats?

Really? Do you recommend booking one now and waiting until a week before?
What if it doesn't open up?

Well, that's what I noticed watching this route for the past month. Take a look at the next week and tell me what you think.

I booked an economy award (to avoid the close in booking fee) and planing on adding the miles and upgrading to F as it becomes available.

Well if you book economy on the same flight before the $75 is charged then Upgrade to first there is no fee to upgrade. But otherwise, yes

NO. They don't allow changes once the ticket is booked.

Are you sure? IIRC I once changed a reservation, they told me as long as there's no change in the route it's free. CMIIW

So book one seat in j/f saver and the other in economy then upgrade economy to j/f when/if it becomes available?

You are correct. Free date changes on AA as long as departure/arrival remains the same.

Yup. Or both in economy and upgrade when it opens.

Yup. Or both in economy and upgrade when it opens.
And if a second in j/f doesn't open then I'm stuck.
Do they usually open more seats or won't know until a week before?
