I purchased a ticket with Virgin Atlantic that lands in London and I am looking to connect to a British Airways flight which I need to still purchase a ticket for.
Since these are on separate purchases do I need to go to baggage pickup and recheck into my second flight ? or is there a way for them to connect my flight and move my bags for me.

Either way, how long of a layover should I allow to make sure I don't miss the second flight ?

Also if anyone knows the cheapest one way ticket with awards from LHR to TLV
(so far it seem BA with 12500 avios + $220)

easy jet could be $150. Much cheaper than even surcharges from BA.

Thanks but they don't seem to fly out on London Heathrow where I am landing and want to avoid long layover or change of airport.
thanks anyway

Faster to make a connection to an elal flight than to a ba flight, t1 (LY) is a close walk to t3 (VS) while BA is at t5 you have to take a shuttle and takes more time.

not as worried about walking to the other gate a it might take to go through security again which I once had to do when I transferred from US air to Elal (even though planes were right next to each other in same gate)

Also concerned that I may have to actually retrieve my bag and check in again since my two flight were two different purchases

IIRC, VS and LY Have an interline baggage agreement so you can check your bags all the way through
You can say what you think when you think what you say.

CMIIW but you will have to do security again as it's a different terminal (LY-T1, VS-T3, BA-T5).

And now the walk to LY in T1 is absolutely ridiculous, you walk underneath T2, it's a half hour walk

LY is always the last gate in the terminal for security reasons. They do their own security screening.

ok so it sounds from this that I need at least a 2 hour layover, probably 3 hours.
Glad I know beforehand but it is a little ridiculous to need that much time to change planes!

2 Hrs is enough is you would do Elal, as said Elal works with VA to transfer bags.

All the above is assuming that your first flight arrives on time. LY or BA will not take any responsibility for VS coming late.
