JJ1000's list of top restaurants and dishes in Miami:

1. Backyard BBQ (New chef in mid 2017 totally new menu): Burnt ends, 2nd cut brisket, Dinosaur Rib, BBQ Sundae, BBQ Burger.

2. 26: Sushi pizza is  a must I prefer it with baked salmon, then the Passion Mojito, Sushi Teriyaki tempuraed, Cilantro Aioli dip and truffle fires, all of their soups are good. Miso Bass is incredible as well.

3. Harbour Bistro, new menus in early 2018: Chicken and waffles just perfect, duck a l'orange pot stickers, millionaire ramen, lamb shank, charcuterie platter if that's your thing... Also serving brunch, Chicken and waffles again, eggs Benedict with bacon on top,

4. Fuego: Flatbreads are a must, then the back ribs, pastrami egg rolls, smores dessert, perfect date drink are good. (Update March 2017, the app chef and bbq chef isn't there anymore and the quality has been spotty from recent reviews.)

5. Zak The Baker. Menu changes too often to recommend stuff. Not Cholov Yisroel.

6. Kosh: Chocolate souffle and korean beef with extra sauce are good.

7. Rustiko: Spinach and Artichoke Dip, (Quinoa Salad is very good), (Pappardelle Mushroom if lunch), Mushrooms Panzerotti is an absolute must order only down side is it's a dinner only item. Oreo cheescake dessert but make sure it's fresh.

8. Harbour Grill: The Harbour Grill Filet or TheKing Reserve steaks are great. Supreme Burger is very good as well.

9. Pizza type options:

Foozo: Foozolis, the caprese foozoli with extra balsamic sauce and garlic aoili, their pastas are good as well.

Jerusalem Pizza: Best plain pie, get it fresh in store, coated fries good as well.

Lenny's pizza: Gan Eden Pie.

Also notable unique places are The Freeze which makes ices, serendipity makes ice cream (there is one next door to ZTB now), and Miami Beach Chocolates turtles and bark now also in Surfside!

P.s. 98% of kosher restaurants have nothing outstanding about their wine list.

Bottom line... @chevron seems to enjoy some good whine with his burgers and fish. And no one can tell him otherwise!

Enjoy the vegetarian friendly 9 days impossible burger from Reserve Cut next time you go!

Bottom line... @chevron seems to enjoy some good whine with his burgers and fish. And no one can tell him otherwise!

Enjoy the vegetarian friendly 9 days impossible burger from Reserve Cut next time you go!

I've never been to reserve cut, but yet again. According to the Michelin guide, the 45 day dry age steak should be on par quality wise with any other item on the menu.

A burger is merely seared ground beef, the beef can come from anything.  Steak tartar is uncooked and I sure as heck hope the meat comes from a great source

Anyways, this discussion is quite tiring. I'm free not to eat out, I too quite well at private dinners etc

It's sad that the mentality of fine kosher dinning is "you have to know what to order"
.
No one made these restaurants have 50 items on their menu or sushi 25 ways. They chose that.

Beyond that, there's no reason fish shouldn't taste as good as a steak in fine dinning establishment. Belief otherwise would imply that chef's are only taught to cook steak and are taught to destroy fish .. cooking is cooking regardless of what's in your pan.

What it is, it's the kosher dinning mentality. Everyone wants to eat out at some high farfluten restaurant.

Just keep it fancy and the peasents will be happy.

Service? Well since I'm told here that all kosher dinning service sucks.. why bother

Food? Pack the menu with 50 items but apparently one must consult experts prior on what to order

Decorum ? What a joke... Play loud disco music so no one can hear anything

I was at street kitchen and it was so loud, I asked the waiter for something and she thought I wanted to order hummus ?!?!

Anyways, you guys lost me at the whole silliness implying one must know what to order...

Panther makes great coffee, do they make great cappuccino? I'd assume so.. but don't tell me I should get a cappuccino when I get a pour over... And if they couldn't make a dang good cappuccino I'd be of the opinion that they shouldn't sell it... It wouldn't imply they don't make great coffee though .

It sounds like you won't be happy in any kosher restaurant. I'd recommend grilling a burger at home and avoid all this frustration and pain...

Here's what I want;

Easy parking ... Not the case of most South Florida kosher.. has one in surfside sought to have valet ?

Professional staff bringing you in to premises

Not library quiet but not disco loud dinning

Waiter calmly, knowingly explaining menu and dishes

Getting your dishes on time etc

Proper attention to you as client .. being there but not hovering

Dishes tasting and cooked as incredible as you expected

Look, otherwise I'll stay home. Stop raising up establishments that need to get their act together. You just give a junkie another extension. Some places need to really mop up

Back in the day, cine cita was damn good, what happened to them?
News flash! The establishment is not there to meet a standard but to make a much money as they can.
Feelings don't care about your facts

And this is why there will never be a Michelin starred kosher restaurant.
At least until someone opens without a profit motivation.

FTFY

Bh  I'm very happy. I don't eat out much locally except for small things like sushi and sandwiches.

I eat out when I travel, I'm not as subjective.

But I arrange or attend dozens of private wine dinners yearly so I'm happy tyvm

In fine dinning, wine sales account for much profits

https://daily.sevenfifty.com/the-new-financials-of-running-a-restaurant-wine-program/

I happen to know the know the writer Erik segalbaum

Beverage programs have always been integral to the financial success of restaurants. While food sales might typically account for 60 to 70 percent of gross revenue, the beverage category often accounts for 80 percent or more of gross profit dollars. There are myriad reasons for this—for example, beverage generally has less loss, lower labor costs, and less prep variation. Plus, it’s not nearly as perishable as food. Simply put, it costs far less to put a bottle of wine or a cocktail on a table than it does an entrée or dessert.

But I don't think this accurately describes a restaurant where bottles may cost thousands of dollars .

One thing you notice in kosher dinning regardless of how upscale, so many kids.. so yeah they take up seats and are less profitable

But mevushal requirements do crimp a restaurants style. You basically will have the same wine list as everyone else .

There are restaurants that do non-mev.

So, when are you opening a full-time place that will be the first Michelin starred kosher restaurant?

One day when I make my millions I'd like to have a small winery somewhere in Israel in like a yishuv and I'd love it to have a restaurant.

I love making wine in California but no way I'd move there

Non mevushal really doesn't account for dinning habits and style but it could create a fantastic wine list and cellar

A bottle of pontet canet 2003 could at a kosher restaurant sell for $2000. That's a nice profit for the owners

Let me know when you come home from lala land.

Until then, just enjoy the Whine!

Easiest way to from a millionaire to food stamps would be to make a Michelin restaurant for kosher and assume you're making money by selling $2k bottles.

Been saying this whole thread you aren't facing reality.

Supposing kosher restaurants did have expensive wine. $500 bottles mean a table is $200 more profitable than otherwise

It also means higher tips and you'd attract better staff.

I'm not in lala land. I bet you said Zak the baker would never survive in wynwood

I have no idea what brasserie ostrow will be or do.  There's no reason to think or imply that the clientele must be Jewish. She can make amazing food that happens to be kosher. No one is forcing you to eat there. I'd pay $250 for a meal if it was incredible.

None of the Paris kosher restaurants have been able to pull off a star. Wake me up when she does.

According to the Michelin guide. There are 34 global vegan restaurants

https://guide.michelin.com/us/en/restaurants/vegan-90

I'm not implying ostrow will get a star, I said it's ambitious of the owner to say that and might hopefully imply the direction of the restaurant..

I see no reason 34 vegan places can have stars and you can't have a kosher restaurant.  It's mindset and mentality.

Fwiw the clientele they generally would attract isn't fressing at asiatiko or street, there are plenty of Jews eating at vegan or fish restaurants who would want kosher

There are plenty of VIP folks that fly chefs down.

She's not the first. At least a dozen kosher places have said they want it.
They just don't put in the effort required as it wouldn't be profitable to do so.
