JJ1000's list of top restaurants and dishes in Miami:

1. Backyard BBQ (New chef in mid 2017 totally new menu): Burnt ends, 2nd cut brisket, Dinosaur Rib, BBQ Sundae, BBQ Burger.

2. 26: Sushi pizza is  a must I prefer it with baked salmon, then the Passion Mojito, Sushi Teriyaki tempuraed, Cilantro Aioli dip and truffle fires, all of their soups are good. Miso Bass is incredible as well.

3. Harbour Bistro, new menus in early 2018: Chicken and waffles just perfect, duck a l'orange pot stickers, millionaire ramen, lamb shank, charcuterie platter if that's your thing... Also serving brunch, Chicken and waffles again, eggs Benedict with bacon on top,

4. Fuego: Flatbreads are a must, then the back ribs, pastrami egg rolls, smores dessert, perfect date drink are good. (Update March 2017, the app chef and bbq chef isn't there anymore and the quality has been spotty from recent reviews.)

5. Zak The Baker. Menu changes too often to recommend stuff. Not Cholov Yisroel.

6. Kosh: Chocolate souffle and korean beef with extra sauce are good.

7. Rustiko: Spinach and Artichoke Dip, (Quinoa Salad is very good), (Pappardelle Mushroom if lunch), Mushrooms Panzerotti is an absolute must order only down side is it's a dinner only item. Oreo cheescake dessert but make sure it's fresh.

8. Harbour Grill: The Harbour Grill Filet or TheKing Reserve steaks are great. Supreme Burger is very good as well.

9. Pizza type options:

Foozo: Foozolis, the caprese foozoli with extra balsamic sauce and garlic aoili, their pastas are good as well.

Jerusalem Pizza: Best plain pie, get it fresh in store, coated fries good as well.

Lenny's pizza: Gan Eden Pie.

Also notable unique places are The Freeze which makes ices, serendipity makes ice cream (there is one next door to ZTB now), and Miami Beach Chocolates turtles and bark now also in Surfside!

The shul and young israel both have lots, can ask them if you can park for shabbos.

Kosherland is in surfside. Only metered parking there though.
Don't the shuls have meters as well?

Hello everyone, planning my trip to SoBe staying at the W south beach need info on parking, Parking seams to be $45+tax+tip.. i called the hotel they said you can park on the street but need to feed the meters till 3am (you can pay for 3 hours which is still 12am) was wondering if anyone knows of a public parking in that area that will come out cheaper.

TIA
Anyone stay there recently? Is it possible to find parking on the street?

hi all,

so i'm planning my first Miami trip, for now my reservation includes 2 nights @ SRBH and i'm still debating where to go for the 3rd night. from the notes above it seems that its not worth renting a car when you can Uber around.

2 questions, if i arrive 3 hours before check in to SRBH, will i have where to drop my luggage till my room is avail? same goes to my last day in Miami, if i book a evening(8pm) flight will the hotel let me keep my packages until i go to the airport?

If you don’t mind walking, the municipal lots in Bay Harbor Island are free at night. I believe the sign says they are enforced beginning at 8am.  I don’t remember until what time at night. You can also get a permit at bay harbor town hall to park in the lot 24/7 (each lot has a different price, get a permit for the one that works best for you.)   When we stayed at the end of January they prorated the monthly permit and it costed me about $15 for a week. We didn’t use the car much so this was a good option for me and was cheaper than using Uber to and from the airport.

Howdy. I'm planning my first trip to S. FL with the wife and baby next week Sunday through Thursday. Looking for a hotel for around $250 a night. We're traveling in and out of Ft Lauderdale and as of now are planning on renting a car. There is a staggering amount of hotel choices, and so many of them look nice online and have wildly conflicting reviews, so I thought to turn to you more experienced travelers on the forums for guidance. Factors that are important to me are, in descending order:
1- clean and nice feeling
Much less important are
2- location. We like to walk and would like to walk to the beach,  and we like to walk to eat too. We're more into lunch than dinner. And, we keep kosher.
3-pool and other amenities in the hotel. We don't plan on spending g all that much time there other than in the evening, but if the grounds are pretty that's always nice.

Thanks very much for helping us out with this last minute trip!

If paying cash, you're most likely best off either at Grand Beach (Surfside area) or Eden Roc (41st area). The former has better food, the latter has the boardwalk and is closer to South-beach, downtown etc.). Personally haven't stayed in either, but I know people who loved Eden Roc and I think Grand Beach is also well-reviewed.

MDC Water & Sewer Dept issued a precautionary advisory for Bal Harbour Beach. Avoid recreational water activities until further notice. https://bit.ly/2UFaN3o

GROSS

A precautionary advisory to avoid recreational water
activities including swimming, fishing and boating has been issued because of a
wastewater discharge Saturday. A mechanical failure at a pump station, located at 350
Sunny Isles Blvd., resulted in 720,000 gallons of wastewater discharging into a storm
drain that led to the water way.
Please be advised that based on satisfactory water testing, the Florida Department of Health has lifted the swim advisory for Bal Harbour Beach.

2019 TR

Transportation:
Like last year we didn't rent a car lyfting was and is a breeze
Average Paid per mile: $1.03 (after $20 free with T-Mobile Tuesday...)

Lodging:
Grand Beach Bay Harbour
Average nightly rate after all taxes and fees $254.17
Location wise we liked it very much although it is not on the beach we really enjoyed walking to and from the hotel each and every time, obviously it depends on your preference, Hotel is fairly new, expect everything to be Ikea style (modern, just OK quality...) was also clean, we did not deal much with the staff but they never seemed too friendly, customer service by phone or email is non existent rooms are spacious, we had a nice Bay view and our room had two showers... if we return to the area and find something affordable and convenient elsewhere we would certainly try it.

Shul:
The Shul - Chabad of Bal harbour, very nice place, beautiful mikvah, coffee and snacks multiple minyunim shachris till like 11 lacks more options for mincha+marriv

Chai Wok (was delivered from the NMB location)
We ordered via UberEats on arrival since we would otherwise arrive too late they dropped it off at hotel reception since we were not there yet, we got
- Beef & Pastrami Eggrollls (little to no meat in there)
- Dragon Roll
- Godzilla Roll
- California Roll
- Chicken Dumplings
- Edamame Salad
Sushi rolls were like supermarket grade (bear in mind we ate 2am after it was delivered around 10 which may have a serious effect...)
Average check $29.50

Kosh
For our first night we had dinner at KOSH, we took @jj1000 recommendation for the
- Korean beef which was amazing
- NY mushroom steak
- Rib eye
- salad
- Chocolate souffle
- everything was exceptionally delicious
Average Check $107.95

Cafe Vert
Delicious breakfast, French and American style, we ate here twice, we had
- Cheese omelete
- Caprese sandwich
- Pizza crepe
- Croque monseiur
Delicious and tasty
Average Check pp: $30.56

BACKYARD BBQ
Was not as overcrowded as last year and we opted to dine outside, they also had stock of 99% of the menu, we had
- Burnt ends (was substantially better on night 2, night 1 was likely a damage)
- Brisket poutine OK
- Ceasar salad
- Dino ribs mouth watering
- Frozen strawberry lemonade
- Unfortunately (or fortunately??) we got no room for desert
Average check pp: $59.16

Cine Citta Cafe
Quiet place for lunch, we had
- Vegetariana Pizza, ironically the waitress tells us it's a pie but it's for 1 person... I'm afraid the owner is heavily invested in weight watchers...
-Eggplant al Parmigiana
-Tuna Panini
This place offers very generous portions
Average check pp: $36.10

The Carrot
We stocked up on take out for our flight home
-Chicken salad
-Tuna wrap
-Strawberry passion smoothie
Average check pp: $18

BON CHOCOLATIER
(Opposite The Grand Beach Bay Harbour)
We tasted some of their delicious chocolate (@jj1000 hazelnut bomb is addictive...)
And we got a few of the creative Truffles Boxes to gift to the babysitters back home

PICTURES TO FOLLOW

My Surfside TR/Ratings (not really gonna give scores, feel free to ask for details that interests you):

Transportation:
Glad i didn't rent a car ride sharing was cheap and a breeze lyft was always cheaper, when there was surge pricing I just kept on trying after 5 minutes it was back to normal (and then right away back to surge...)
Average Paid per mile: $1.60

Lodging:
Marriott Residence Inn Surfside
Average nightly rate after all taxes and fees $228.75
Great location, brand new hotel, extremely nice staff, beautiful suites with option to link several together, definitely good for large families obviously lacks ocean view and even just a plain balcony, or better a window we can open.... If I wouldn't of kept Kosher the free breakfast would definitely be a awesome benefit, still I would look for something with a porch/balcony next time.

Shul:
The Shul - Chabad of Bal harbour, very nice place, beautiful mikvah, coffee and snacks multiple minyunim shachris till like 11 lacks more options for mincha+marriv

26 SUSHI TAPAS
We ordered via Eat24 on arrival since we would otherwise arrive too late they dropped it off at hotel reception since we were not there yet, good sushi nothing compared to what i'm used to at yakimono, same with fries, Miso soup was delicious.
Average check $27.25

BACKYARD BBQ
Reservations means you'll still wait for a table, service wasn't the fastest it's overcrowded like crazy by 8pm they were out of most items on the smoker menu, I wanted to try the Dino ribs and Sous vide but they were out on both nights I tried, smoked brisket, lamb ribs were delicious, Pulled smoked beef was a little too sweet for me, chicken poppers are great nothing special, desserts we got Grandma Dot's lemon bar trifle & Smores de creme they were way too sweet too ;)
Average check: $52.33

Cafe Vert
Delicious breakfast, cannot compare to Delice LA but not disappointed at all, their smoothie machine was broken so limited drink options
Average Check: $24

The Carrot
Delicious healthy menu we had the BAKED CHICKEN BREAST & BARBECUE CHICKEN BREAST platters, huge salads, and mouth watering smoothies
Average check: $40

B&H Pizza Typical pizza store...
Average check: $21

I recently stayed at the Grand Beach Surfside ocean front hotel, they did not want to accept my UberEats order. They claim it was due the health department regulations, and the front desk would not accept it. This is important to note for people who are arriving late at night and want to preorder. Unless you can take the package personally, they will not accept any food.
On a side note about the hotel, stunning lobby, I loved the outside lounge area (separate from the outdoor pool area), location was perfect, very big rooms and I had a huge balcony, concierge was very accommodating.
Their rooftop pool is magnificent and for adults only. That is great for adults who dont want kids around, but if you have kids they will not let you up.
Regarding shabbos, they do not have keys and as such need to leave your door open or have the security guy open it for you. When you open the balcony doors the air conditioning in the room shuts. However it takes 2-3 minutes for that to happen, so if you want to go onto the balcony, make sure to close the door before 3 minutes.

All in all I enjoyed my stay and would go back again.
