JJ1000's list of top restaurants and dishes in Miami:

1. Backyard BBQ (New chef in mid 2017 totally new menu): Burnt ends, 2nd cut brisket, Dinosaur Rib, BBQ Sundae, BBQ Burger.

2. 26: Sushi pizza is  a must I prefer it with baked salmon, then the Passion Mojito, Sushi Teriyaki tempuraed, Cilantro Aioli dip and truffle fires, all of their soups are good. Miso Bass is incredible as well.

3. Harbour Bistro, new menus in early 2018: Chicken and waffles just perfect, duck a l'orange pot stickers, millionaire ramen, lamb shank, charcuterie platter if that's your thing... Also serving brunch, Chicken and waffles again, eggs Benedict with bacon on top,

4. Fuego: Flatbreads are a must, then the back ribs, pastrami egg rolls, smores dessert, perfect date drink are good. (Update March 2017, the app chef and bbq chef isn't there anymore and the quality has been spotty from recent reviews.)

5. Zak The Baker. Menu changes too often to recommend stuff. Not Cholov Yisroel.

6. Kosh: Chocolate souffle and korean beef with extra sauce are good.

7. Rustiko: Spinach and Artichoke Dip, (Quinoa Salad is very good), (Pappardelle Mushroom if lunch), Mushrooms Panzerotti is an absolute must order only down side is it's a dinner only item. Oreo cheescake dessert but make sure it's fresh.

8. Harbour Grill: The Harbour Grill Filet or TheKing Reserve steaks are great. Supreme Burger is very good as well.

9. Pizza type options:

Foozo: Foozolis, the caprese foozoli with extra balsamic sauce and garlic aoili, their pastas are good as well.

Jerusalem Pizza: Best plain pie, get it fresh in store, coated fries good as well.

Lenny's pizza: Gan Eden Pie.

Also notable unique places are The Freeze which makes ices, serendipity makes ice cream (there is one next door to ZTB now), and Miami Beach Chocolates turtles and bark now also in Surfside!

Sounds like a good vacation. Weston is great (just further from the water). I know those Chabad people.

no sarcasm --  not at all. Totally sounds like a great, smart place to take a vacation, and to enjoy Florida and spend a fraction of the Miami area.

What sounds great (at least from my perspective of someone who really likes warm weather) is that coming from the East Coast,
and leaving the ice, snow, skin-biting temperatures of the 20's and 30's, is the great sunshine and being in a relaxed, chilled environment.

Weston will be much more of a vacation from NY than MIA would be, in many ways..... That's my perspective -- others have another view.
They may like convenience, tons of restaurants, and hustle bustle. Our idea of a vacation is to get away from a lot of that and relax.
The fact that you're revolving location around a walking distance shul is commendable.

ok sorry i mis took your comment
got the tickets for $64 p/p round trip via Jet blue
im staying in weston bc it was the marriott for the cheapest points. will probably end up visiting miami.
i contacted the chabad rav there, he said they usually have a shacharis minyan
and as for the last point, its another topic whether to travel to places where there will be no minyanim. but in my opinion, how could i vacation in miami/fort lauderdale vicinity and not put myself near a shul.

Agree 100%.
(yasher koach to you.) What we've done a few times is the Cypress Creek Sheraton Suites for 4,000 pts and there's a sep room with sofa bed included -- good for children, and great price. The Coral Springs 9:00 weekday shacharis is 20-30 min drive away...
The only 'chisaron' there is Shabbos -- no shuls close-by. There was a minyan there on Shabbos for Yeshiva Week, but no Torah.

Backyard BBQ or Kosh?
Depends on what style food you are in the mood for. Backyard BBQ is obviously BBQ oriented food which I found to be a better version of what you will find at Smokey Joes in Teaneck. Kosh is a solid option if in the mood for steak/ sushi. The sushi there is excellent.

Reccos?
I had the smoked brisket (lean version) I've never ordered that before at a restaurant so I can't compare, but it was great. And I didn't eat it until I got back to my hotel so it was cold, yet it still was really good.
