JJ1000's list of top restaurants and dishes in Miami:

1. Backyard BBQ (New chef in mid 2017 totally new menu): Burnt ends, 2nd cut brisket, Dinosaur Rib, BBQ Sundae, BBQ Burger.

2. 26: Sushi pizza is  a must I prefer it with baked salmon, then the Passion Mojito, Sushi Teriyaki tempuraed, Cilantro Aioli dip and truffle fires, all of their soups are good. Miso Bass is incredible as well.

3. Harbour Bistro, new menus in early 2018: Chicken and waffles just perfect, duck a l'orange pot stickers, millionaire ramen, lamb shank, charcuterie platter if that's your thing... Also serving brunch, Chicken and waffles again, eggs Benedict with bacon on top,

4. Fuego: Flatbreads are a must, then the back ribs, pastrami egg rolls, smores dessert, perfect date drink are good. (Update March 2017, the app chef and bbq chef isn't there anymore and the quality has been spotty from recent reviews.)

5. Zak The Baker. Menu changes too often to recommend stuff. Not Cholov Yisroel.

6. Kosh: Chocolate souffle and korean beef with extra sauce are good.

7. Rustiko: Spinach and Artichoke Dip, (Quinoa Salad is very good), (Pappardelle Mushroom if lunch), Mushrooms Panzerotti is an absolute must order only down side is it's a dinner only item. Oreo cheescake dessert but make sure it's fresh.

8. Harbour Grill: The Harbour Grill Filet or TheKing Reserve steaks are great. Supreme Burger is very good as well.

9. Pizza type options:

Foozo: Foozolis, the caprese foozoli with extra balsamic sauce and garlic aoili, their pastas are good as well.

Jerusalem Pizza: Best plain pie, get it fresh in store, coated fries good as well.

Lenny's pizza: Gan Eden Pie.

Also notable unique places are The Freeze which makes ices, serendipity makes ice cream (there is one next door to ZTB now), and Miami Beach Chocolates turtles and bark now also in Surfside!

Miami Beach Hotel for Starwood/Cash trade??
« Reply #80 on: January 26, 2010, 09:18:01 PM »
So..i'm taking a short vacation wife my wife and baby and the only spg hotel in miami beach is the 4 points...which, as everyone knows, just "doesn't cut it". I'd figure i'd see if anyone had any alternative hotel chain reward points, free night vouchers, airline miles...what it will take to get a hotel on miami beach (not south beach!). I am willing to trade for Starwood points or cash. This could be a good opportunity to use those rewards that you've never used or whatever...I'm still knida new to this whole posting thing and the point system but let's see if there's someone out there who has some ideas. feel free to private message me as well.

Hotel stay dates JAN 31, 2010 - FEB 3, 2010 (3 nights..)

thanks!

It is an okay hotel, and I imagine that if you are only in Miami for 3 days, you won't be in your room that much. It's an expensive time in Miami the next 2 weeks, so everything will be expensive, and given the fact that The Four Points is available for 10k points those 3 nights, I would go for it, since they are asking $257.

Why not stay in the Westin Diplomat? It is a gorgous hotel for 12,000 points a night and it is definitly worth the extra 2000 points over staying at the 4P. It is in Hollywood which is North Miami beach. I just booked some rooms for a friend and the rates were in the $400 range, so a pretty good points value. It is also near the waterways and all the nice restaurants in that area.

Actually, I apologize, I just checked availability for the Westin Dip and there isnt any showing up online for your dates. It is still worth a shot to try calling up the SPG concierge to see if they can get you availability over the phone. I have had times in the past that there was no avail showing online but over the phone i was able to get a room.
Keep in mind that 1/31 is Pro Bowl Sunday in Miami followed by the Super Bowl on Sunday 2/7, so there are alot of tourist in town that are filling up the hotels.

Grill Time was our favorite but make sure to make a reservation. Very pricey but we thought it was well worth it.  Another favorite is China Bistro, really good food, great menu and atmosphere....

What is MATCHING through BETTERBIDDING on Hotwire?
betterbidding has pinned most of the hotels so you match up the amenities, location, and star rating with their list to figure out which hotel it is.

Works pretty well too! Ive done it successfully many times with priceline. It helps you figure out what you'll get if you bid X dollars on a specific star rating in a specific area.

But how can you know, that x dollars gets you x hotel? Prices at hotels change from day to day, or week to week.

You dont know for sure...it is a forums where people report back what they bid and what they got...you sort of watch the trends...if 7 people bid on a 3 star hotel in Manhattan for X price within 1 week and they all get the same hotel...your chances of getting it as well are pretty good. Check it out. Betterbidding.com, it works.

They have other shtick as well. Such as they provide a list of which hotels priceline uses in some areas and what star rating they fall into. So you know that if you bid on a 3 star hotel in X area, chances are you will get one of those hotels.

Additionally, you can know that the adjoining area (where you dont want to stay) does not have ANY "4 star or higher hotels". So if you just bid $65 on a 4 star or higher and got denied and now you need to raise your bid AND add an area. So add THAT area nearby which we now know does not have any "4 star or higher hotels" (based on the list) and you know you wont get stuck there...and raise your bid a few dollars. check out that site for more info

you can figure out the hotel only with hotwire.
you can only narrow it down to a couple on priceline as it doesn't show you ammenities so you know 4* in x area will get you a,b, or c etc.

Priceline will give you the hotel that costs them the least for those nights - nothing to do with how much you spend  - they will profit a couple of $ more or less.

I know how horrible the Four Points is, and I read all the horrible comments on this site and on tripadvisor.  Le'mmaseh, they told me that my gold status would get me upgraded to a relatively newly renovated oceanfront suite on a high floor.

Apparently the renovations on 9th and 10th floors are really nice (plasma TVs, new bathrooms, new furniture).  And the balconies are nice.  4,000 points + $60 (almost 4 CPM) is a really good deal this time of year.

1. Has anyone seen the renovated rooms who can confirm the degree of upgrade?
2. Would anyone wanna trade my starpoints/BA miles/AA miles/Jetblue/$$ for 3-4 nights in the Holiday Inn (priority club points) next door (especially if they'll make reservation and have high status for a room upgrade)

I'm really not in the mood to stay at the Western Dip all the way up in the 200s...(unless theres a lot of kosher food/minyanim that I dont know about - either way I doubt it'll match 41st street, and all minyanim and the kosher food and the restaturant.com GC at Rare Steakhouse, etc.)

Hotel victor in South Beach is also a little bit of a shlep (and too pricey, unless i get a really good deal on a trade- to all you sellers ;)) Plus parking is prob more expensive there.
Anyone have any new creative thoughts about the options? Or a good review of the renovations?

We all would really benefit from a good star* option there.  Miami beach can't be beat.  If only this place has enough rooms up to par, it would change the whole picture.

Where are you getting this idea about cash and points at the Four Points Miami? On spg.com, there is no availability on c&p for the next few months!

Generally Speaking, if the hotel has a lot of availability, like it does on the dates I wanna go, they'll honor C+P just to get another room booked. Of course YMMV,  but calling the hotel directly almost always works if you have a nice conversation with a manager or reservation office. (especially if you're Starpoints Elite gold/plat)
