JJ1000's list of top restaurants and dishes in Miami:

1. Backyard BBQ (New chef in mid 2017 totally new menu): Burnt ends, 2nd cut brisket, Dinosaur Rib, BBQ Sundae, BBQ Burger, Lemon/Apple/Smores desserts.

2. Fuego: Flatbreads are a must, then the back ribs, pastrami egg rolls, smores dessert, perfect date drink are good. (Update March 2017, the app chef and bbq chef isn't there anymore and the quality has been spotty from recent reviews.)

3. 26: Sushi pizza is  a must I prefer it with baked salmon, then the Passion Mojito, Sushi Teriyaki tempuraed, Cilantro Aioli dip and truffle fires, all of their soups are good.

4. Zak The Baker. Menu changes too often to recommend stuff. Not Cholov Yisroel.

5. Kosh: Chocolate souffle and korean beef with extra sauce are good.

6. Foozo: Foozolis, the caprese foozoli with extra balsamic sauce, their pastas are good as well.

Also notable unique places are The Freeze which makes ices, serendipity makes ice cream (there is one next door to ZTB now), and Miami Beach Chocolates turtles and bark.

Planning a first time trip to MIA. Options are a renting an already kosher house with a pool in NMB (at a decent price), or using points for the Residence Inn Surfside (space is a big factor- the status that I have will not guarantee me any upgrades so the RI will give me the most space for my points).

Obviously the space and private pool are very appealing, but will the location detract from the enjoyment of the trip? Looking at Google Maps, it will take 45 minutes to get to 41st and Collins area during rush hour.  But it is a halfway point between kosher restaurants in Aventura and Surfside. Alternatively staying in a more central area will shorten our driving time, but my wife won't be able to swim at all.

Any thoughts/opinions?
There is nothing special on 41st and collins

The better restaurants are in Surfside.

we often stayed near FLL and we traveled much further each day for dinner to Surfside and/or Aventura.

You will probably have a more enjoyable vacation at your own NMB private home and private pool, and then just drive in at 4:15pm for early dinner and to have a quicker "rush hour".

Driving home is usually quicker. Backyard BBQ, 26, Kosh, Mozart Cafe, Harbor Grill, etc... are all great dinner destinations, and not as far of a drive...

Can anyone recommend a hotel in Collins 41st area or Bal Harbour for shabbos the weekend of 5/25 - 5/27 which will be cheaper than $250 a night or cheaper than 40k Chase UR total?

I have done the Confidante and was not a fan. I would even prefer the four points but their rate is astronomical for the weekend I am going..
Did you look at the holiday inn next door to the Four Points? Same owner, similar quality hotel from my understanding.

I never though I would say this, but I wish I could go to the holiday inn or the four points! they are both charging over $350 a night for my dates (5/25 - 5/27). This situation is really not looking good :(..

I'd recommend AirBnb in that case, or try to buy a night cert for one of the chains if they can book into those rooms. HI is bookable with points, which usually (but doesn't always) mean that it can be booked with a free night cert.

Or buy IHG points with the trick to get the rate down to ~$280 peer night.

Had the Reuben and Corned Beef sandwiches at ZTB.

They were both good, but it wasn't anything to write home about.

They use pastrami in the reuben, and they really trim the pastrami dry, like no fat at all on it. Was too dry for my taste.

The corned beef had much more fat, and I liked it more.

But again it was good for a local lunch, not something I'd drive to Wynwood just to get.

Hey everyone. I know people ask incessantly about the Turnberry and the Residence Inn Surfside for shabbos so here is another:
My wife and I are going memorial weekend, leaving our kids but taking an infant. I was about to book 4 days at Turnberry and then saw a bunch of negative Trip Advisor reviews saying the construction, noise level and management were horrendous during their recent stay. Can anyone corroborate that information? If we don't stay at Turnberry would Residence Inn be the only other shabbos friendly option? It seems that people primarily stay there for the "every room is a suite " perk but that wouldn't really be necessary for us. Not really looking to stay in Miami Miami on the beach.
Thanks for all your help on this thread!

Rustiko:

Spinach and Artichoke Dip, AMAZING, must order. It is served like a nacho dip with some sourcream and salsa on the side, the sauce itself though is incredible, it is served boiling, with pieces of artichoke inside:

Boiling:

Quinotto, fantastic dish, but saltier than I recall. Never knew quinoa could taste so good.

Pappardelle Mushroom Pizza, recommended by the waiter, had terrible crust (was almost soggy) and was very bland overall.

Oreo Cheesecake, one of my all time favorite cheesecakes. Just rich, creamy, and delicious. We were saving the crust for later and they tossed it when they cleared the table, they gave us a whole new piece for free.

Mushrooms Panzerotti (Filled with mushrooms, leeks and Swiss cheese in a red wine creamy sauce.), this was outrageously good! I was licking my plate clean with the delicious sauce. The fried leeks on top were a bit stringy to eat, but they added great flavor.

French onion soup, was very good needed cheese added and more pepper. This is the first item to come out and I was starving so I may have taken some bites before I took a pic ;)

Hot chocolate chip cookie, I heard amazing things about this cookie, but I didnít care for it.

I was cringing reading this. I had the reuben before Pesach & I loved it. Iím much more of a real food than burger, schnitzelÖ type of guy so it was right up my alley. Just yesterday I got really in the mood of it & almost posted on this thread asking if thereís anybody coming to Israel who wouldnít mind bringing it for me.  ;D

I've had my fair share of pastrami, and that pastrami was dry. They said they got complaints about it being too fatty so they trim it down as much as they can.
