Has anybody been to both the Ritz Carlton and St. Regis Bal Harbour that can say if one is way better than the other?

My preference would generally be to stay at the St. Regis (it looks a bit more upscale, is closer to the Shul and Dan and everyone seem to love it)

but the Ritz looks like it has a lot more suites and also the cost difference for the suites there is not that much. I'm planning to book on points, am only SPG gold but would really prefer a suite. Would there even be a possiblity of a suite upgrade at the St. Regis as only gold? Also, even if I pay to upgrade I figured it would be a lot less at the Ritz (looks like a $200 difference between base room and a nice 1 brm suite whereas the price difference at the St. Regis is over a grand). Anybody paid for a suite upgrade at either place and can comment on the price?

It seems like people generally pick the St. Regis because of the location (and probably in the past just because SPG was a better program) but we are five in my family (all school aged kids not babies) and since I only have points for one room, I really need the suite.

Thanks! I couldn't see too much from pics online. Do you think 5 people would be ok in the one room, worst case scenario (my kids are fine on couch pillows on the floor)? Also now I'm truly getting into embarrasing territory I like to tease others about in the Waldorf Jerusalem thread, asking about where to put their crockpot but I gotta ask, would a normal room have a desk or somewhere I could put a plata up over Shabbos?

for the day everyone eats at THe Shul Kiddush. There is pleyof food to go around

Thanks for the info! I saw they have kiddush but just assumed it's like a Denver kiddush (we should note this in the Colorado Master thread) that will NOT tide you over for food for the day.

It'll be enough food for lunch. As for the other 8 hours of shabbos, always good to have food.
