JJ1000's list of top restaurants and dishes in Miami:

1. Backyard BBQ (New chef in mid 2017 totally new menu): Burnt ends, 2nd cut brisket, Dinosaur Rib, BBQ Sundae, BBQ Burger, Lemon/Apple/Smores desserts.

2. Fuego: Flatbreads are a must, then the back ribs, pastrami egg rolls, smores dessert, perfect date drink are good. (Update March 2017, the app chef and bbq chef isn't there anymore and the quality has been spotty from recent reviews.)

3. 26: Sushi pizza is  a must I prefer it with baked salmon, then the Passion Mojito, Sushi Teriyaki tempuraed, Cilantro Aioli dip and truffle fires, all of their soups are good.

4. Zak The Baker. Menu changes too often to recommend stuff. Not Cholov Yisroel.

5. Kosh: Chocolate souffle and korean beef with extra sauce are good.

6. Foozo: Foozolis, the caprese foozoli with extra balsamic sauce, their pastas are good as well.

Also notable unique places are The Freeze which makes ices, serendipity makes ice cream (there is one next door to ZTB now), and Miami Beach Chocolates turtles and bark.

I did Uber Eats - there were quite a few choices. I got from Pita Xpress (ORB hechsher IIRC). Food was fine, pretty quick delivery. Just call the driver when he picks up and tell him where to meet you.

I'm looking at pricing for a mini van or SUV out off FLL for this weekend. Dollar car rental coming up cheapest by far. Any reason to be weary and go with more standard (hertz, avis etc)?

Interesting. My perception of Dollar was always equal to the other bigwigs (other than their lack of a worthy rewards program);
never thought of them as shady (e.g. ez rent a car, etc). They do happen to be owned by Hertz.
I've rented from Dollar many times over the years, and more specifically (for your situation) from MIA as well and was as seamless as it gets.

FWIR every room in Surf side residence inn is a 2 room suite- living room/kitchenette and bedroom.
As others have already written, this is absolutely incorrect.
I feel compelled to second (more like 3rd) the opposition to this statement because I so so wish it were true
and would feel terribly disappointed if someone would book a room based on it.

Some updates and opinions on the restaurant scene:

1) There's a newish (open for several months now) restaurant called Vgan Kitchen in the NMB/Aventura area.
As you probably guessed, it is vegan. I don't know where to begin because I left this place completely mesmerized.
Even if you couldn't care less for the ingredients of what enters your body, this place is worth a visit just to admire
their artistic creativity in creating mock meat and dairy dishes.

But that's not where it ends; everything I ordered was IMHO (and my spouse's) absolutely delicious, and the taste is
so real and authentic, no garbage in your food.
Everything is made from scratch, so it may take some time for your food to be ready.
In addition to being vegan, everything is organic, gluten free, and soy free.
Just imagine the creativity involved, I just thought it was astounding what they came up with for a place that makes such claims.
I cannot shower enough praise on this really cool place, what more can I say.
It ain't cheap, but it's still a bargain compared to the upscale eateries.

2) At the complete opposite end of the spectrum (health-wise at least), Dixie BBQ (also NMB/Aventura area) was a refreshing site.
What exactly did I find refreshing? Their prices! I was totally shocked at how cheap they are (even for NY standards).
But more so was their friendly service. The manager especially is a really friendly guy and makes you feel well taken care of.
I was very surprised not to be treated like chopped liver as I've usually come to expect from these type of cheap Israeli joints at this price range.
The food was nothing special, typical for what you'd expect from these fast-food chains.
But late hours, good service, and cheap food means it's a likely stop on trips to Miami.

3) Hate to argue with some of the foodies here, but I found the new Nona (formerly Noma) bakery in Surfside very disappointing.
I tried a few items and thought they were really nothing to write home about (to put it mildly).
Perhaps it's just not my style :) .

4) Strange that 2 of the aforementioned restaurants haven't made it to the Wiki yet, but I will add it now.

Same here. If I recall you can even download their app and skip the counter altogether.

Trying to arrange a trip to Miami beach and I have absolutely no idea in what area I should be looking for hotels.

1) No shul necessary (only ladies)

2) close (walking distance?) to kosher eateries

I stay in the 40th street  and Collins avenue area. It is near a choice of resturants. Also in the past uber or lyft were very resonable to get to other areas that also have choices of restaurants.
