JJ1000's list of top restaurants and dishes in Miami:

1. Backyard BBQ (New chef in mid 2017 totally new menu): Burnt ends, 2nd cut brisket, Dinosaur Rib, BBQ Sundae, BBQ Burger.

2. 26: Sushi pizza is  a must I prefer it with baked salmon, then the Passion Mojito, Sushi Teriyaki tempuraed, Cilantro Aioli dip and truffle fires, all of their soups are good. Miso Bass is incredible as well.

3. Harbour Bistro, new menus in early 2018: Chicken and waffles just perfect, duck a l'orange pot stickers, millionaire ramen, lamb shank, charcuterie platter if that's your thing... Also serving brunch, Chicken and waffles again, eggs Benedict with bacon on top,

4. Fuego: Flatbreads are a must, then the back ribs, pastrami egg rolls, smores dessert, perfect date drink are good. (Update March 2017, the app chef and bbq chef isn't there anymore and the quality has been spotty from recent reviews.)

5. Zak The Baker. Menu changes too often to recommend stuff. Not Cholov Yisroel.

6. Kosh: Chocolate souffle and korean beef with extra sauce are good.

7. Rustiko: Spinach and Artichoke Dip, (Quinoa Salad is very good), (Pappardelle Mushroom if lunch), Mushrooms Panzerotti is an absolute must order only down side is it's a dinner only item. Oreo cheescake dessert but make sure it's fresh.

8. Harbour Grill: The Harbour Grill Filet or TheKing Reserve steaks are great. Supreme Burger is very good as well.

9. Pizza type options:

Foozo: Foozolis, the caprese foozoli with extra balsamic sauce and garlic aoili, their pastas are good as well.

Jerusalem Pizza: Best plain pie, get it fresh in store, coated fries good as well.

Lenny's pizza: Gan Eden Pie.

Also notable unique places are The Freeze which makes ices, serendipity makes ice cream (there is one next door to ZTB now), and Miami Beach Chocolates turtles and bark now also in Surfside!

My wife and I went to House of Dog on a Saturday night at around 10:30. There were about 3 other tables of people there at the time. The food was pretty good, although I didn't find the hot dogs to be anything special. What makes it good are the plethora of toppings available for the hot dogs or burgers.

However, that's just about where the positives of this place start and end. The service was probably the worst I have ever experienced at any food establishment. We were told to take a seat at a table outside (which we preferred over inside). After about 5 minutes I asked the waiter who was taking another table's order if we could have the menus after they ordered, since we were never given a menu to order from. After waiting another 10 minutes I asked another waiter who was sitting with his friends at a nearby table if he could take our order, which he reluctantly did. We ordered to different hot dogs, fries, and a fountain soda (with free refill).

Now, I thought to myself how long could it possible take to make 2 hot dogs at a hot dog place? Well it seems that the answer is about 45 minutes. After about 25 minutes I went inside to see what was taking so long. I was asked by the manager if I was waiting to place an order to go and I told him that I was actually seated outside after which he told me to please have a seat and someone would be right with me. I then told him we already ordered and have been waiting 30 minutes for our food. After that the first hot dog came, but not the fries or soda, which you would think usually come out first. Finally, after going inside and getting the fountain soda myself the fries and other hot dog came. No apologies were ever offered for the horific service, only excuses which I didn't understand considering the place was pretty empty.

And to top it all off, they wouldn't accept the $25 restaurant.com certificate that I had, but they did give me $12 for it . The waiter said that restaurant.com posted the deal without their consent a few weeks ago (even though I bought the certificate a few days before and it was still up on the site)

I know this post is not much about the food, so if anyone has a question feel free to ask, but I would NOT recommend this place to anyone.

Thanks a lot for the post. It's not always just about the food. My wife LOVES franks, but would go bonkers (myself as well), if we had to go through what you went through. Thanks for the heads up.

As far as PBI, I can't get flights with Avios to FLL or MIA Purim, so a friend said I should try PBI and drive. Not much success there either. But is that why you chose to fly there?

Beyond by Shemtovs - 41st street
As far as PBI, I can't get flights with Avios to FLL or MIA Purim, so a friend said I should try PBI and drive. Not much success there either. But is that why you chose to fly there?

Why PBI? First of all, thanks to Dan and you guys, my son and I are flying on miles I got from opening just 1 (of 2) SW cards. Thanks, guys!
So that's the answer. I got the best deal on SW miles by flying into PBI.

So, Mutty, is this where you think I should bring my son? http://www.beyondbyshemtovs.com/home.html

Had a very similar experience wait wise. I ordered to go as I was on my way to catch my flight from MIA. I ordered 2 pastrami sandwiches and 1 hot dog. The fellow running the counter said it would be a 15 minute wait. 35-40 minutes later my food was finally ready. (Only after telling the guy twice I had a flight to catch) The hot dog was nothing special and the pastrami sandwiches came in a hard baguette with barely any pastrami. Not what you expect for a 17.00 sandwich. There was only one guy manning the small grill that obviously led to the backup. Seemed like the people waiting in the restaurant were waiting a long time for their food to be served. The waiters seemed really inexperienced and kept on having to ask the manager for guidance. My visit last year was not the greatest experience either. Pretty surprised they are still in business.

I really enjoyed visiting the Vizcaya place and gardens.

I'm a fan. Unfortunately I was in a rush when I went there so I didn't get to see much of the gardens or the second floor. I definitely am planning to go back to finish next time I'm in the area.

I'm sure this has been discussed many times, so I'm sorry for asking, but I poked around a bit on this thread and didn't find what i was looking for.
It seems that the Westin Diplomat is head and shoulders above the Four Points. What about location? Is the Dip so far up that it's "out of it?"
Thanks!

Really just that. I've never been there so I don't really know, but someone mentioned to me today that "if you stay at the Dip, it's a different area and you're out of it." I have no idea if this is in any way accurate or not.

Wow. Pretty disappointing.

Someone ought to point the owner/manager to this thread.

To think I was contemplating a day trip to FL to hit up House of Dog. Unfortunate.

even before the above reviews, that's just silly.   they're only hot dogs with some toppings, great for a midnight snack if you're in the area, but definitely not day trip material.
