Keep Verizon Unlimited Data?
« on: September 17, 2014, 01:48:30 PM »
Is there any way to upgrade a phone and keep VZW unlimited data? Not including the method of using a different lines upgrade. I know there used to be a way to do it thru Best Buy, but that appears to be dead.

Yes as long as you dont use an upgrade (renew your contract) then they wont change your plan so if you pay full price for a phone then you can change your phone

Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I did a variation of the SD thread below where I actually activated the the iPhone 6 and sim shipped from Verizon. That was before I knew that the 'switch phone lines' trick was dead. Long story short, my iPhone 6 is now activated on my UDP line. And I don't have a switch order pending on my acct.

Details:
I transferred upgrade from iPhone 4 UDP line to a different line and got the 6 shipped to home. I first activated it on that second line. Then it wouldn't let me switch lines without picking a new data plan.

I basically did what 'Moonwalkr' explains at the bottom of pg 380 below.
I also had a iPhone 4 on my UDP. After going through the same steps he did, it wouldn't let me activate the 6 on UDP line on with the other SIM card (got an error when I entered the SIM #). So I tried with the SIM that came with the 6 and that worked.

one came with the iPhone 6.

The other one was from the other phone on the account. I don't think that matters because I wasn't able to swap them. System wouldn't let me activate that way.

When all was said and done, all I did was transfer the upgrade off my unlimited account to another account and activate it on the unlimited line. For whatever reason I wasn't forced to switch plans.

I went through a bunch of other steps but I don't know that it wouldn't have worked exactly the same if I didn't go through those steps.

Edit- actually I think first activating the iphone 6 on the non-unlimited account was somewhat beneficial. Because when I was later activating it on the unlimited line I was "activating a device previously on the account". That could be why I wasn't asked to pick a new plan on the unlimited line.

I know. I would advise listening to that thread.

However, I had no choice since I found that thread after I had already activated the iPhone 6 on the non-unlimited line. I'm just sharing what worked.

It seems that there's clearly more than one way to skin this cat.....

That would be nice... maybe I'll be able to upgrade my phone without paying full price!
