Very difficult to find a "cheapest place". Real leather (i.e. "top grain leather") is expensive. You then need to consider the quality of the wood and the craftsmanship of the product.

Are you looking for a starter set, or for heirloom-quality furniture that is going to last for generations? If it's the latter, consider brands like Ethan Allen, Thomasville, Bassett, Stickley, Henredon, Bernhardt, Baker or other high-end brands. There is no "cheap" here, these brands are going to run you $10-20k for a set.

If you want the high-end stuff but don't want to spend that kind of cash, Craigslist is a solid alternative (if you know how to search it).

I bought some furniture at national furniture in Lakewood, pretty cheap and good stuff, was worth a trip from Brooklyn.
Had to pay NJ tax though.

National isn't around anymore. They closed up for good.

I would check out Sander's Furniture in Williamsburg. I've only gotten beds there, but was so impressed with their prices (for good quality stuff) that given the option, I'd at least check them out for any kind of furniture.
