Cool stuff.
Why are they charging an annual fee to use the remote video feature? -not cool these days. Theoretically one can hang any tablet on the wall or use any IP cam for wireless video. All they are really offering is the software which is nice..

And a tablet at $150 which isn't necessarily easy to find. And it's customized to be an intercom.
I wouldn't have thought there would be a market for this but apparently the intercom industry is a multi billion dollar industry.

And it's not live, there are taking pre-orders for early second quarter 2015

Each device is $150.  On that device runs our proprietary software, which allows for audio/video intercom functionality anywhere in the world, mobile app, voice activation, etc.

If I want to connect to multiple rooms in my house for example, outdoors, basement, bedrooms... then I will need a separate device for each location?

How many units do I need in a system?

You need one unit for each room that you want to communicate with.  For example, if you want one in your kitchen, one in your basement, and one in your bedroom, then you would need three units.
If you just order a single unit, you can still communicate with it via our iOS and Android mobile app.

Yes, each location needs its own device.

Please note that these locations don't have to be in your own house: you can have two in your house and one at your parents' house, all on the same intercom system (since they are Internet-connected).

a) we are in the process of integrating an outdoor video doorbell, so you will be able to see your doorbell's video stream on your Nucleus devices

b) any IP camera with an open API (i.e. most D-Link cameras) we should be able to integrate with.  We will probably have integrations with some of the more popular cameras on the market, but we can't make any promises until we see which cameras our customers want to see integrated / how difficult the integration will be.

What will the tablets be running? I assume the intercom feature will be proprietary software, but will users be able to load other apps? If somebody already has a lot of devices this probably won't be all that attractive, but some people might want to be able to check weather, calendar, notes, etc. on a device like this.

The software is Android-based, but it won't allow the installation of other apps that aren't pre-approved (i.e. no playing Angry Birds on your wall).  However, we are using Android partially for the ease of incorporating all those functionalities that you just mentioned: weather, calendar, etc.
