Was never the best player on his team.

And that's even with leaving the best closer in history out of the picture.

Now everyone come kill me  ;)

Sorry for stating the truth.

Other than Rivera, would you say he was the best player in the postseason ?

All the postseasons together - maybe were better than all the postseasons together of any other player.
But there were many postseasons that he wasn't the best. (Scott Brosius etc.)

Does that describe a first ballot hall of famer? Someone that was at times the best player on his team.

Although he might have not been the best player..... (although throughout most of his career he was Mr clutch..)(yet one of the best). nevertheless he is the most loved player for he was classy and normal not only in the game but also out of the game.

I followed them intensively thru their great run. Jeter was a big part of their success, he almost never was the greatest part.

Mo.
Remember, a closer is (at least) 1/9th of a win. A hitter is 1/9th of the lineup.

I'm asking everyday player. Many times a week would go by without seeing Mo, either because they're losing or crushing the other team.

:o
You don't think for yourself?
His stats don't justify first ballot. Period.

Here's a list of players who were not first ballots:
Joe DiMaggio, Cy Young, Rogers Hornsby, Yogi Berra, Carl Hubbell, Lefty Grove, Hank Greenberg, Robin Roberts, Whitey Ford, Eddie Mathews, Grover Cleveland Alexander, Harmon Killebrew, Jimmie Foxx, Ferguson Jenkins, Duke Snider, Mel Ott, Tris Speaker, Juan Marichal, Pie Traynor, Dizzy Dean, Roy Campanella, Bill Dickey and Catfish Hunter
