His career wasn't insanely good - it was very very good.

He is a very very good player - a Hall of Famer even, but he is being insanely overrated.

Yes, he has always been, and always will be, greatly overrated.

"Insanely" good is obviously a subjective term. I contended he was - objectively - a top 5 short stop in history. That, in my humble opinion, is insanely good. Worthy of the farewell tour he has seen this year? definitely not.

Olberman makes your point far more succinctly than your comparisons to Mariano, other players on his team or his lack of an MVP award, (yes, I'm aware Olberman makes that point too) all of which are irrelevant.

Seems to be in this thread a bunch of Mets & non Yankee fans who have watched Jeter play on/off a couple of times a year..

Why is Mo & Jeter being compared. They do not play at the same position...

Jeter was a leader by example, who hustled for 20 years, Lifetime .310 batting average.. 3,465 hits... Do you need to know more than this? This is called consistency.
I can recall so many "Star" shortstops in his era who just don't compare..

Nomar, Arod, Tejada & I am sure I am missing many many more...

He played an entire season of games in the playoffs & played exceptionally well. Won 5 world series..

Yes, he had good players around him.. But those good players had Jeter around them too..

Up until this past weekend he played 1 meaningless game in his 20 year career. Do you understand what that means?

If youre hatin you havin been watchin

+1
People are missing the point that he is Captain Consistent, and Mr Clutch. His hits in October were crucial.
He played at such a high level for such a long time. Even if his numbers weren't #1 in the league every year, he still put up top 10 numbers consistently and for such a long time.

With a typical all-star you're lucky if you get 5-10 seasons of elevated play, Jeter was the little machine that just kept chugging for 20 years.

He is also a deservingly well-respected captain and person, and was well-known to be humble and wisely avoided the pitfalls of other star athletes.

He is the sixth greatest Yankee of all time. Nuf said.

Plus I posted a stat elsewhere of his postseason stats (158 games, equivalent of a full season) and they are that of a peak season of a hall of famer. That is first ballot worthy

Yes. That the Yankees are the greatest franchise in US Sports history.

Jeter is a hall of famer. But he is very overrated. Period.

No ones arguing if he's a hall of famer.
